Spec.

Intel Pentium Anniversary.
Gigabyte B85N Phoneix motherboard.
Geil Extreme 2x2gb 2133 memory.
Cooltek UMX1 plus.
Silverstone Strider 500w SFX PSU.
MSI GTX Titan Black.
Intel 320 series SSD.
350gb Laptop SSD.

OK, so some pics. First up the case.

Inside.

A GPU.

The board, sadly with orange giblets.

The CPU and cooler.

So the idea is to copy the colour scheme of the Titan Black and build a micro PC based around it.

The case will need better cooling and ventilation than it has now. So I bought one of these to cut into the side over the GPU.

Which will be painted black.

Work so far. A GPU back plate. No SLI this time so much cleaner look.

Cut.

Cover.

Test fit.

Design.

Cut and install graphics.

Please note : the Black part is missing because I had the blade set too deep. It mashed it, so I will produce it later and the next time I have the plotter out.

Parts on order and general ideas.

Two slim fans, to be fitted outside the case in its belly.

Braiding.

Treated myself to one of these..

Some Montana Black "Power Green"

Also one can of Hammerite Satin Black..

The braiding scheme.

I have two greens to choose from.

For filtering dust I chose fly screen mesh.

In silver=grey to suit the colour scheme. Whilst it's not as tightly woven as proper fan filter material it does stop larger dust bunnies and allows for very good airflow, something this build is going to need.

Updates coming soon, I'm currently working on the Mayhem fan grill that needs to be black.

Time to sort out the cooler. First up remove the fan mech.

And clear..

Then remove the decal from the top using the heat gun.

Stick down.

Cut out.

Flip.

And fit.

Now for the fan. Sadly the decal on here was paper and even with heat broke up and got all gunky. So I used my TIM cleaner to get the crud off, then back to the old school to get the right sized circle.

And a short while later.

I've also fully sanded (took ages gees, the back side of the grill was awful !) and acid etched the fan grill so I'll up some pics of that later.

g3258 with a titan black. would there be any bottlenecking at all?

Very powerful little machine there though regardless. Look forward to the final build

Yo would be the answer to that. Kinda a cross between yes and no.

Main reason for building the rig is that I've fallen in love with Fallout 3 again so a 80 hour + playthrough is in progress. No doubt when that's done I will also play through New Vegas again too, as both are far more couch orientated than sitting at a PC (they're just too long to remain comfy).

Both only use two cores....

Going into the future? I have full faith in Pascal, DX12 and so on to eradicate the CPU.

That said if it does get sweaty then no doubt I'll just throw in one of those I7 like Xeons for £170.

Can't see me needing it though, or more than 4gb ram 'cause it'll be running Win 7 pro X86.

Oh yeah, expect a full range of benchmarks when it's finished :)

Best things come in small packages, least, that's what the wife tells me...

Great looking build, can't wait for more pics.

Morning update. So the braid is all here.

And the fan grill is all in acid etch primer.

Case is out for delivery today :)

So yay, the case arrived. I must comment on the quality, it's stunning ! So it was time to get serious. First I removed both sides (one pulls off the other is fixed in place with nine bolts) and had a look at it on the desk.

Right, so I want to remove the bottom. This meant about twenty screws and two rivets.

I drilled out the rivets. Not sure why they used them really given screws would have made it better.

And now I have this out.

Which I am going to fit the two Gelid slim fans to. I will even retain the filters !

I also sourced eight nuts and bolts to hold the fan grill onto the side. They'll need some cutting down but it's nice to actually have what I need for once :)

Morning update. So the PSU is coming later today but the fans are still just saying shipped. No idea when they'll come but it won't be until next week. Until then I can be getting on with a few bits and bobs and next up will probably be cutting the grill in.

For now though let's get the bottom ready to hold two 120mm fans.

Remove all of the screws and mask.

Then use the grill as a handy template !

And drill. Note some of the holes fell into the vent holes but that's OK it's really not an issue.

Update. Took apart the roof fan ready for painting.

/good boy scout...

Side panel mod. OK so the first thing you should always do is mask. However, please note, you should mask twice. As you move the jigsaw around it moves in the aluminium shavings. As thus it can scratch the panel so be careful..

Then I marked the holes first for the bolts.

And drilled them and bolted the grill down. This is to make sure it's still perfectly straight.

Now I could draw the cut lines.

And start cutting.

TBH if there is one part of computer modding I hate the very most it's cutting metal with a jigsaw. It's just all over the bloody place.

Remove the masking, no scratches thank the lord.

And assemble. Please remember there is silver/grey mesh going between the grill and the hole, so any rough edges will be fine. I am going to paint them using a cotton bud and some paint in the lid.

Talking of which, look what arrived whilst I was in the middle of cutting out the panel.

Very handy :) Maybe tonight or tomorrow morning I will paint the grill black.

Oh also.. I'm currently in talks with Cooltek who have offered me help with any parts I may need. They're a good bunch of guys !

So this morning it was time for a dry run. Basically I want to make sure the PSU is working properly before I braid it.

I used a genuine Windows 7 Professional X86. No point going 64 bit with 4gb ram. I did think about upgrading the ram but tbh? I can't be bothered. It's enough for the gaming I have in mind.

So, all systems go !!

It's now all installed, SP1 and everything else.

Other updates...

I've decided to send the wiring away to Pexon. The PCIE wires are those nasty combined things and I don't think I could make them look nice.

Last night I took the grill off and marked where the case was sticking out under the grill and used my rotary tool with a sanding attachment (grinders just clog on aluminium) and ground the edges back. Next step for that is going to the model shop around the corner tomorrow and buying some black model paint and a small paint brush so I can paint the raw aluminium edges. I know the mesh I have planned quite well and you can see through it quite easily so I don't want any exposed metal on show. I have not painted the grill yet I am waiting until early next week when Easter is done and I'm settled.

Any way, the boring part is done (software) and I will leave you on this note.

Please note - the entire rig is stock. I've not quite worked out how to overclock it yet...

looks like a capable little system, no side panel window? that backplate looks awesome tho, how did you get the graphics on it, also how are you attaching it to the gpu?

Didn't x86 windows used to deduct your video ram from your system ram once you hit the 4gb limit? Ie, for example you have a 2gb video card with a 4gb system ram means you only have 2gb useable system ram and 2gb vram. Where that would leave you with a Titan is anyone's guess.

The graphics were cut from green 3M carbon vinyl using my plotter. The plotter is a Silhouette Portrait and cost £130. Well worth it if you mod a lot :)

To hold it on I will cut some small pieces of 3m double sided foam and place them on the screws before pressing it down.

No window no not on this one. You can get them with windows but the only distro in the UK for these cases doesn't have them.

Please tell me that the Pentium is just a stop-gap CPU? :p

I don't know tbh. If I need to upgrade it I will get one of those I7-alike Xeons for £170 or so.

I've got 3.5gb usable.

Morning update. I'm going away at 5pm until Monday evening so this will probably be the last update until at least then.

Had a late night with my lady last night, figured I could get a lie in after being up for the postman every day this week. Nope ! forgot they worked today and had a rude awakening at 10:30. Threw on the lady's dressing gown and ran for the door, what a sight :D

Any way, the Gelid slim fans have arrived. Sadly it looks like the plug that covers the part where you remove the blades is glued in. I will try my best to remove them but if I can't it means I can't paint the fans green. This will suck, but isn't the end of the world as they will be out of sight when the rig is back together any way.

The silver grey fan mesh has arrived. This means that I have almost all of the parts I need to reassemble the side panel. Still need to paint the grill though..

I think the silver dinoc has arrived too, so the only thing I should be missing now is the green spray paint. I think I might even have some left from Nfenix over at mum's, and I will be going over there later.

I will probably drop in a few pics before I leave today and I'll have my phone so basic forum access will be there, but if I don't get the time to check in let me wish you all a very safe and happy Easter. Eat too much, drink too much if that's your thing and I'll see you all on the other side :)

Edit. Well the Gelid fans don't come apart as I just broke one trying :D

So I've ordered a pair of Yates, which usually come apart easily.
