Simple question really, which would give better performance
OcUK GeForce GTX 780Ti "NVIDIA Reference"

Vs one of the GTX 970 cards available, assuming both cards are overclocked.
Obviously it depends how well each card overclocked, but I think the 780Ti comes out on top. If I assume core overclocks of 1150 and 1500 for the 780Ti and 970, the core performance of the 780Ti is 47% better on paper.
I don't think it's easy to compare the memory bandwidth since the 970 handles its fewer bits more efficiently, so I guesstimate they are roughly on par with each other.
I've seen arguments against the 780Ti simply because it's older tech and will get less driver optimisations etc... and of course there's DX12.

I opted for the 780ti over a 970 (gaming at 1440p). By design won't all 970 cards take a hit on performance once games start accessing more than 3.5Gb of memory? I was under the impression that all nVidia cards from 600 up would support DX12?

nothing in it and if you worrying about 3.5gb you'll be worrying about it with the ti unless its a 6gb variety.

performance is so close just pick one.

The 780 6GB was a brilliant release, but very limited. I think they came out when the price of the 780 was falling a bit, and very reasonably priced, and they were only about 20 quid more than the 3Gb versions!
I really wish I'd got a pair now, I think I'd still hang on to them if I had done.

I went for the 970 in the end, I figured it will hold 2nd hand value longer and wanted the game codes that came with it anyway, so all in all worked out a little less than what I'd have paid for the 780ti.

I was in the same boat. I bought the OcUK 780ti to replace my 680.

I still do not know if it was the right choice over a 970 or not.

On paper the 780ti trumps the 970, but fps graphs are very close.

I sold my 680 for €200, so the 780ti was just €150.

It will be a solid upgrade, but i'm still not sure i made the right move :)
