Just discovered the Spotify app on PS4 which is great but I've got a plasma so I need a visualiser or a screensaver to prevent burn in? Does the PS4 have one or is there an app at all?

your going to use your tv to play music?

why not play it through a hi-fi or something. built in speakers on tv's are awful you would be better off playing it through even a £60 sound bar than them.

or get a £20 bluetooth speaker and play it off your phone/tablet

Errr, all my HDMI inputs go through my amp. And the TV has ARC.

Thanks Spinal, will have a look.

Well, it's kinda nice to see the UI when you're trying to use it!

Use the UI on your phone simples.

There is no need to have a TV on for spotify unless your using it whilst gaming.

If all your looking for is to play music and nothing else then you can use phone/tablet to control the ps4 or use the spotify app to control the ps4 app.

I only use the ps4 spotify app to listen to spotify whilst gaming. Otherwise I stream directly from phone/tablet to speakers, soundbar, parrot car kit, etc.

I'd agree with Sonny on this one.

I've been using the UI on my phone or iPad as it's a lot better. It also lets you skip and select tracks without changing which app you're using on the PS4.

Well I've got a B&W A7 for airplay, but if I want to drive the main system (Onkyo amp + B&W MT50 ) it's easier to just use the TV optimised PS4 ui than mess around with htpc

I suppose you're right if it's a case of messing about with an htpc but the ps4 app is missing a lot of the functionality of the iOS apps.

I found it a bit 'clunky' to use but I was playing music while gaming.

Because my amp is my hub and the TV has HDMI ARC the amp turns on when the TV is turned on and vice versa, so if I turn the TV off it also turns the amp (and therefore the audio) off.

Why don't you have the PS4 plugged into the a/v receiver then use the AV receiver to feed the TV?

You shouldn't be using ARC at all unless your using built in smart tv or freesat/freeview tuners.

I would fix the setup so you don't need to have your tv on to listen to music. Does your av receiver not have bluetooth or spotify built in?

I do, but my point was that turning the TV off turns the amp off (not that ARC was being used to deliver the PS4 audio).

Amp has Spotify built in but it's horrible and clunky, can't be controlled from a phone etc, don't think you can even shuffle (haven't used it apart from the first time I tried it).

I would normally just plug my phone in via 3.5mm directly, but turning the amp on still turns the TV on, and means I can't use my phone or shuffle remotely.

That would be nice, hopefully it'll come in an update.

Does your Amp let you turn off HDMI control? That would probably be the only work around when you want to use it for music only, so that you can then turn off the TV without turning off the amp.

Yeah, well, the TV does. But that means the amp doesn't turn on or change source automatically, and the volume can't be controlled with the TV remote. And the amp isn't accessible.

turn the tv off?
not standby, but off. it should be one button :p

If my consoles are working I turn the TV to standby (the consoles don't power down when busy), which turns off the amp, then I turn the amp back on. Does your amp then turn the TV back on? Mine doesn't - I have an Onkyo, too.
