Left cash in ATM

Did this a while back...went to a branch next day and they sorted it pretty quick...money back in my account within an hour or two. Was pretty happy with the service tbh...it was afterall my screwup.

Still can't understand how you can just leave money in an ATM. As far as I remember you have to pick up the cash before they give your card back? (never paid attention to how they work and haven't used one in a while

)

Other way round. They don't dispense any cash until you take your card.

Never left cash in an ATM but came close to leaving cash in a self service till a few times since I'm so used to paying by card and not getting any cashback.
grabbed my bags and taken a few steps before realising twice now with 10 or 20 hanging out the machine and seemed like the customer waiting for me to finish was now waiting to see if I would realise... rather than informing me of my mistake.....

Same when people leave cashback at the self service checkouts, always reading about people doing it in the local free newspaper.

I can say I've never left money at an ATM of self service checkout before.
