hi all,

i was wondering if anyone here could tell me much about the running/servicing cost of a 9 year old bimmer. thinking about buying one, and i found a nice one for £8k and only 57k miles thats really tempting me.

are BMWs of that age still reliable today?

Thanks :)

yep its a 56 plate, the 2.5L engine.
whats the warranty like? do they cover all the important bits or do they get picky on things.
took one for a test drive today, very nice smooth drive, the only thing was the slightly heavy steering
the spec is reasonable, its a 325i SE, 19" 5 spoke wheels, climate control, cruise control, parking sensors etc
just had a service and MOT

Steering is very heavy isn't it, you get used to it though it's very precision like which is nice.

Make sure you can get a bmw warranty, my friend has had over 8k of work (blown turbo (x2), cracked rims, head gasket, coolant leak) so far in 2 years, lucky he had a warranty and the car had a fsh with bmw.

So it'll likely be the 3.0 engine then?

The comprehensive BMW warranty is good, pretty much the best on the market. Buy it and pay it monthly as the cost essentially doubles after 60k. They do have a list of exclusions, but that's obviously better than a list of inclusions as it means everything else is covered.

You could check out their site.

As has already been said, it's not a 2.5l engine, it's 3.0. £8k for one that age seems mighty expensive.

Mine was a great car when it was working!
Avoid the big wheels with low profile run flat tyres. One design in particular goes through then like hot dinners. Each time it costs best part of a grand for a new wheel and tyre.
Lots of issues with mine, sworn me off BMW for a while for sure! Perhaps its just bad luck, but it was BMW approved used and not very old at all. Warrenty covered most stuff I had go wrong, but alloys were a different story.
Oh and nearly every BMW dealer I go to is just a horrible experience, certainly when I compare them to the few Jag dealers I have used.

It is a 2.5, the E92 didn't get the new 3 litre on the 325i until September 2007.

I always thought that all the e92s had the 3l and it was only the e90 that had the 2.5. Wiki seems pretty unclear on it as it states 2006+ for the e92 3l
