What's the point in spare bedrooms?

I think this is mostly a mother/general women's thing.

I remember when I was growing up I managed to win persuading my mother to have one of the 'spare' bedrooms as my office. We had two and no one ever stayed over. I have no idea what the point is in wasting that space - they were all set ready for people to sleep in them.

My girlfriends mother is the same, they have a huge multi-million house with FOUR spare bedrooms. The ironic thing is she doesn't like anyone staying over and she has no close friends to stay over. I'm only allowed to stay if it's prearranged and no more than one night!

Anyone shed some light on this?

What else are you going to do with spare rooms?

If you don't have a practical use for them, may as well make them up as bedrooms I guess, then they are always available if you have company. Better than having empty rooms, I imagine.

My mother did it. My missus does it. Thing is, we have people come and stay over. But it is such a rare occurrence, the room would be better as an office with a fold out bed.

its a good excuse to charge bedroom tax:rolleyes::rolleyes:

stupid ****ing government

unless your too posh to be a council house resident

Good stuff like office, whatever else you like doing that requires space.........

Bragging rights?

My house has 3 bedrooms.

Not 1 bedroom, but a cinema room, and an office.

Orrrrrrr you could say I have a cinema room, an office etc.... don't mention the lack of bedrooms. Sounds much better than 3 bedrooms!

And if people ask you how many bedrooms?

The housing market is obsessed with number of bedrooms, even a box room big enough for a single bed and nothing else will be called a bedroom. It sounds a lot better than an office, so it's sold as a 3 beds house, not a 2 bed.

This makes no sense. Doesn't matter what you use them as they are still classified as bedrooms.

spare bedrooms are great. Either as bedrooms or for other stuff.
Would love two spare rooms, one as a bed room. Makes drinking round peoples houses much easier. People are much more prepared to sleep in a room and thus drink. If it's floor/sofa they drive home.
And another one as a gym would be good,
