Hi. On my next PC I don't want to be formatting what so ever. Im thinking of buying a PC but you think it be safer to see what the new windows 10 is like or is it safe to buy a windows 8.1 machine now?.

I haven't formatted in a long time. The upgrade from 7 to 8 was pretty painless.

To clarify this comment, it is free to upgrade to 10 if you do it within the first year of it's release. After that you will have to pay. i.e. Don't wait too long to upgrade else you will end up paying.

(This is the last I personally heard of the situation, it may have changed since then).

You won't need to format.
Upgrading to 10 will just upgrade the windows installation and leave all your programs and files as they are.
