AMD X6 1100T and a GTX 980 ?

Family member has an AMD X6 1100T at 4.0GHZ, How much of a bottleneck would this CPU be for a GTX 980 ?

I would have thought quite a noticeable amount in some games, though the higher resolution the better.

If his north bridge frequency is also tweaked it will likely do better than bulldozer cores do at the same frequency lol.

It would obviously bottleneck it but looking at benches on AnandTech it seems it would be game dependant. They have charts for a stock X6 1100T vs a stock i7 4930k using SLI GTX770 (which isn't all that much slower than a GTX980) and the difference isn't as big as I was expecting. With the CPU boosted to 4GHz it should still be providing very respectable numbers even with bottlenecking (assuming the difference between 770SLI and 980 loading isn't significantly higher than I imagine).

1440p or 4K won't be such an issue. 1080p will be severly bottlenecked. It's also game dependant though.

Hopefully once DX12/Vulkan get here it won't be a bottleneck!

It would still be a bottleneck for any game written for versions of Direct3D prior to DX12 and versions of OpenGL prior to Vulkan though.
