Not sure if this qualifies as GD or somewhere else

Got my 801 exam in just under two weeks and naturally getting a little nervous about it. Been a tech for 3 years and kinda 'studied' with Meyers' book on the side and now its heading closer to the time I'm going through all the 801 chapters again to swat up.

Anyone got any tips/pointers etc for it? The last time I took any sort of exam was during GCSE days so suffice to say I'm a little nervous. Also if anyone knows of any other good practice exams/pop quizzes that'd be useful.

Thanks!

Read the study material...
know you stuff...
sit a course if you have too..
Do as many practice exams as possible..

It's ok to get a little nervous, it means it's worth you doing it... :)

Good luck... and oh...
Claire/Cleaning
Can't/Conditioning
Walk/Writing
Due/Developing
To/Transfering
*******/Fusing... ;)

It's pretty straightforward to be honest. If you've been in that role for that long you shouldn't have any issues. Just match up the objectives with what you've been learning.

Cheers. I think for the most part I'm OK, just get thrown off particularly when it comes to acronyms and stuff that is largely out of date in 2014. Who uses a CRT monitor nowadays?!?!

If I blitz this I'll more than likely sort 802 straight afterwards

Mate, I did mine years ago, my study book was windows 2k and the exam I took was based on NT 4.0!!! lol

Lucky for my stake; I didn't actually read the book expect for chapter one (resistors) and chapter 7 (laser print process).. so I wasted no time.

and yes I did pass.. I'm sure I would have got a higher percentage if it was 2k rather than NT4, an OS which I've only used a handful of times.

Bump for this. Feel slightly more comfortable having done a few test exams and and all that.

Has anyone dealt with the performance based questions for the 801? I can't think of anything I might have to deal with other than something BIOS related.

Good luck, as above, just have good time management, go over matirial, scenarios, questions etc, dont sweat it and just do aswel as you can do on the day.

I have a second part Cisco exam tomorrow.

Hoping to smash it

Passed with a 695, so barely scraping it. Relived I shouldnt have to deal with crap material on degaussing CRTs and stupid open questions where every answer is actually a valid one.

675 is the minimum nowadays. Got thrown off being met with all the simulation stuff straight away.

Gonna do the 802 pretty pronto whilst its in my head

Flash cards are your friend with the A+ exams. Learning all the stupid cable max lengths, various read/write speeds, paths to this and that in Vista, etc, is not something I found real-world useful so had trouble just remembering it. Just took tons of practice tests, made flash cards from the ones I got wrong, then went over them every night for a week. Passed both exams no probs :)

Annoyingly I had a large number of printer questions in my 801 which brought down my score by a bit (who cares about printers, just call Xerox) but was still in and out in 20 minutes or so.

Going to do 802 in the next few weekends hopefully. Looking at the objectives it seems a lot less broad in terms of areas which is good.

802 is slightly the harder of the two. So annoying when you get a Vista question - like who the hell cares :D

There was a few for mine, its a shame they don't specifically tell you what you got right and just a list of what you did wrong. So many open ended questions where no answer is really wrong.

I'm off to degauss a CRT monitor and buy some RDRAM

Bumping this as my 802 is tomorrow. Any tips/helpers beforehand? I'm partly worried about the simulation being all command line type stuff that's outside of what's covered in Professor Messer/Meyers A+ book.

Cheers all!

Passed with a score of 755/900 and now A+ certified, happy days.

Got the go ahead from work to study for the Network+ and Google Apps certifications.

Grats :)

How much time did you honestly dedicate to this exam? I've been a tech for over 2 1/2 years, did IT and Computing over four years at college prior, and generally have a pretty good aptitude for all things IT.

It's an entry-level qualification and I'd much rather find the time to finish up my CCNA or get stuck into the MCSA books my boss gave me, but if I can knock out an A+ and Network+ quickly that'd at least be something I can bung on the old CV.

I started reading the old 701./702 material years ago before it all changed up then only realised this when looking back into it late last year and buying the newer Meyers books. Only packed in the studying in the last 6 weeks or so; reading a few chapters a night, several practice tests and going over objectives.

Similar position, been an IT Tech for about 3 years now; imagine you'd be absolutely fine if you've done CCNA/MCSA reading etc.
