BattleField Hardline Performance Review AMD vs Nvidia

So to sum it up, numerous websites show the GTX980 on top but here on OCUK the one anomalous review which shows 290X beating GTX980 by quite a margin gets highlighted. Yep, sounds like OCUK. ;)

What i find with GCN is the GPU seems to age well as it's still a good buy if you are not Nvidia biased. 7970 v gtx680 there's no comparison these days when you crank things up and the 290x v gtx780 which were priced similar at one point. Amd have good architecture they just need to get something out of the door as Maxwell while not great in price performance has moved the bar on in other ways. The 290p/x is still a brute in it's price bracket but green piece loves the gtx970/980.

290x doing superb, for less.. Enjoyable gaming experience.

They are pretty much the same ^^^^

HARDOCP are using an XFX 290X that throttles like a reference cooled 290X.

These performance figures are always slow as hell when they use that GPU, i think its running at between 850 and 950Mhz once warm.. recently they used a Powercolor PCS+ for BF4, i think it was, it destroyed the XFX performance numbers from previous benchmarks with it.

It also depends on what part of the game they benchmark, unfortunately none of them publish that info now'a days. so no one can check their validity.

Doesn't matter, the 980 is ahead, oc3ds rubbish is basically the only one that shows this to be the other way around.

Pretty sure you're not going to notice that 1 FPS. Also falls strictly under margin of error, you could re-run the test and make it the other way around.

Does that mean if AMD release the 390X and it's the best single GPU on the planet (But there's no other AMD releases) that AMD are still a generation behind?

They even have the 290X faster than the 980 at 1080P, yet the other sites have it the other way around and more than 1fps.

Admittedly you should be using a 980 for more than 1080P, but even so its the faster card.
 
290x Frame times will be lower and more consistent with mantle enabled over a 980. Like for like. It's the ace up the 290x sleeve.

We saw this from techreport titan x review, in battlefield it even beats the tx on frame times. It's a shame it can't be used across the board.

You might be right, it doesn't look the norm for the 290X to be that far ahead, yes, but i think HARDOCP's reviews with that XFX 290X are way off the norm, unless you have one that performing as bad as theirs.

Given how well BFH runs on my 290 in Mantle and DX11 i'm inclined to believe the median of these four tests.

And again, they are quite different GPU's and different parts of the game will favor one or the other.

I think what we can agree on is the game runs pretty well on both the 980 and the 290X.

I don't argue that the 980 isn't the better card.

Yes it does and it even played fine on the 290 Vapor-X I had at 1440P.

But Oc3D showing the 290X ahead of the 980 on Ultra at all resolutions just is not right.
