Hi all,

Not sure which card to get

There is a 970 Bundle with GTA V for £275 but for similar money I could buy a 290 and the game separate.

I game at 1080p, which would people recommend?

The performance in dying light is pretty similar from what i have seen. Gta 5 is obviously not here yet but if it was me i would get the cheapest 290p/x. If the gtx970 had a proper memory setup it would be my choice but for piece of mind i would get a 290. It's not cut and dry either way and if the memory situation does not bother you then the gtx970 is probably the best bet.

They are both good cards for 1080p. I have both, and the 970 is wonderfully cool for the grunt it puts out (great for my HTPC), although my 290s give me a bit more headroom for 1440p in my main gaming rig. It's very rare I even see that high vram usage at 1440p, so I'd be fairly surprised if the vram thing caused any issues for you unless you went SLI (you'd hit the performance wall on the core before you got to 3.5GB VRAM usage in a single card setup). I have to say that I do really like my AMD cards for their pricing.

970.

Im going to stop short of calling GTAV a gameworks title, but it is utilising Nvidia PCSS and TXAA from a leak in the GTAV thread. So it would be a strong bet.

Oh and the Witcher 3 of course!! :p

Both are gonna run the games fine but I'd go for the 970 that has GTA V and Witcher 3 in the bundle. Actually I'd go 970 even without the games deal.

Well he has plenty of posts so I would check the MM first. I've seen 290s go for £130 odd, over half the price of a new 970.

I have a 970 in my HTPC for gaming at 1080p on the TV and a 290 upstairs in the office and I have to say I prefer the 970 for its temp and sound level (barely audible) and ability to perform brilliantly. I am not much of a kb/mouse gamer so to be fair the 290 doesn't see that much action, however the 970 replaced the 290 in the htpc.

From a gaming perspective, I have played many of the latest games including dying light, ass creed unity, Lords Of Fallen etc and they all perform brilliantly on the 970.

on another note I would love to see GTAV on the 970 but I cannot buy a third time after completing on PS3 and PS4 (must resist pretty graphics)

Isn't it traditionally nvidia cards than are favoured with most GTA games? Plus there is txaa which is nvidia only in gtav and a few other things iirc.
