Say your at a Poker table you get a royal flush and the opposing player gets 4 Aces.

Then say your at the WSOP event and Ray Romano ( who takes part every year ) is at the table witnessing it too.

What would be the odds of all that happening?

It happened. Someone worked out the odds of it happening without the 4 aces which was approximately 1 in 1,949,217,000.

Couldn't happen in draw in a holdem type game the cards themselves wouldn't be that rare just the personage being present would affect the odds.

OP your next post is 223 so aim it right.

My brother had one of those fake casinos for his wedding reception.

I was winding the dealer up saying I was banned from Vegas for card counting... Anyway, I was playing blackjack, with a hand of 17 and chose to "twist".. He looked at me like I was mad.

4 of clubs came up

Total fluke :D

Can you get a royal flush and 4 aces in the same hand? Not being a poker player I thought a royal flush would use an ace?? Just askin'!!

In holdem type games there are shared face up and hidden cards so aces could be in both hands, I like all holdems but prefer draw where you'd be right in that it couldn't happen.

technically, in a real life tournament, it is unknown, you can only estimate the probability of that occurring at a showdown

you can calculate a probability if you make some assumptions that are unrealistic... like assuming they'd play any two cards etc..

in theory any two particular combinations of cards are as likely to occur as any other, there are so many ways to make up a royal flush and a set of four aces - you can then calculate a probability as per here:

http://wizardofodds.com/ask-the-wizard/215/

in real life though it doesn't quite work like that, someone dealt 27 (the worst possible hand) is much less likely to see their way to a showdown than someone dealt AA

AAAA is more likely to occur than 2222 at showdown as someone with 22 is more likely to have folded earlier

a royal flush is more likely to occur if someone has been dealt, as their two hole cards, the higher cards making up the flush - you're more likely to hang onto AK than J10, you're also more likely to have hung onto to two cards if they share the same suit

Surely to minimise the mess pickled is best option eat with one hand no peeling required

School boy error. You neglected to spot the fact that the Scotch Egg is actually the egg of choice. Now go and sit on the naughty step and work through your shame.

The odds would be the same as many other unremarkable showdowns with a regular player watching.

This reminds me of the classic example of RRRRRRRR happening at a roulette table versus any other 8 series combination being exactly the same. Or even the lottery example of 1,2,3,4,5,6 being exactly as likely as any number combination, all 1 in ~13m.

You can pick any exact showdown (suits and values) at a WSOP event with a specific player at the table and show the odds of that happening being very low.

same thing happens when people say soe thing along the lines of " this even last happens 100 years ago", same of probability is it was 102, 97,88,105 or any other god dam number, number special about numbers that humans find easy or regular.
