i5 4460 or 4590

So my 8350 died after my mobo blew up, it wasn't a good overclocker anyway. I'm thinking of investing on a i5 but I'm done over clocking as I just don't have the time to anymore.

I'm just curios if it's worth going for a 4590 over a 4460 for a higher turbo speed.

I play star citizen most of the my time and do a lot of rendering.

Why don't you go for an 4690? And if you say you do a lot of rendering then wouldn't going for an i7 be better?

Non-K CPUs are overclockable +5 bins up as well, depending on motherboard (majority would do this). 300 MHz wouldn't do any difference that you can celebrate in any special way ;-)

Go for i7.

If you are done with OC'ing, you could look for a Intel Xeon E3-1230 V3.

Essentially a i7 1150 chip without the unlock and comes with a few extra monkiers.

My old 4670 none K, played all the games i do in the same way my 4690k dose.
my 4690k @ 4.6 feels no faster than the un clocked 4670 did.

If you're not overclocking, then benchmarks show only a 3-3.5% performance difference between the chips, so you won't notice a great difference.

However, if you change you mind and would like to overclock, then the 4590K will find a heck of a lot more performance.

Bearing in mind, that even with the stock cooler... you can overclock the 4590K by at least 20% extremely easily without any real voltage increase... it would take you perhaps 15-30 minutes to get it comfortably set up, maximum...

On the other hand, with rendering... you will see a noticeable jump with the 4790, if you don't plan on overclocking. And if you do plan to OC, then you will see that same performance jump over the 4590.

The overclocking setup is too easy not to bother... so I would factor that into my decision... but it's up to you

Its out of my budget at the current moment and I have an athlon 450 that I'm using as a backup :/ so rendering on that isn't the best, though an i7 would be nice

yeah its the same with my 8350 I over clocked that and it was faster, just not enough of a noticeable difference

You cannot do that on Haswell processors.

you can set them to run full turbo speed on all 4 cores
i dont know if that extra 5, my old 4670 was a 3.8 on all cores, that extra x4

Are you buying new or used?, TBF the 2500k can be had for £80 and when over clocked is still a very good cpu. and i would class that as an upgrade over the amd 8 core

Could look at second hand.

If new I'd still try if possible to get a unlocked chip because even if you don't want to overclock now in a couple of years when you need some extra performance overclocking can help out. I realise it's not in your budget now but anyway you could save up for a little while and then go for it?

My point above is that you don't really need to spend the time fine tuning.

You could go for a known safe clock speed that will work for all chips... Like 4.4 or 4.5ghz and just leave it there. Will take you 5 minutes or less.

If you really want to fine tune, perhaps it can be done at a later date when you have the time spare or you're not finding 4.4ghz enough

It's still a noticeable jump in performance... Plus you ARE posting on overclockers.co.uk

Err hello.. Overclockers... Past tense and I over clock my GPU

Unfortunately Ks are just out of my budget even if I drop the mobo down to the most basic one.

I've got a few things I would sell to make up the money but I can't see the for sale area in here (guessing its to low) and posting elsewhere has been unsuccessful.

Edit: or the for sale doesn't exist anymore?
