Delay in the delivery of a new Ford Fiesta!!

On Tuesday 24th March I visited the showroom of our local main dealer and signed an order form for a brand new Ford Fiesta.... for my wife!

At that time we were advised that the vehicle was sitting in a compound in the UK, and merely had to be shipped to the dealer, which should have been by the end of the month.

To cut a long story short, we were then given a delivery date of Easter Saturday (4th April) which obviously wasn't going to happen, and then 'by the 11th April'.

This date has now come and gone, and I received call this morning advising me that it is not now due until Monday 20th April.

Apparently the delivery 'arrangements' are under the control of Ford rather than the actual dealer, and we are obviously not happy about the delay, especially having signed the finance agreement for the new car, we currently have two agreements in place. (This a a part ex. for a new care we bought from the same dealer just two years ago)

Does anyone 'in the business' know any more about Ford's delivery process, and whether delays such as this are the exception, rather than the rule?

Thanks! :(

Car was probably taken by someone else or damaged in transportation and they are delaying you while one is being built to spec. Ask for a firm date that will be met or walk. It's only a Fiesta.

Don't think that is the case here as they have quite a few other customer in the same position... I suppose the car transporter could have overturned, or something though!

Wouldn't want to have to start from scratch again, as the particular colour and spec. we require is not that readily available, although it may well have to come down to that, but we are (hopefully) now only looking at another week to wait.

It has been very frustrating for my wife though!

What's so special about the colour and spec?

Might have been on that truck? :p

In all seriousness, if they miss the date again you should look into your options for cancellation as they are taking the mick.

Why would you buy a car from and then (assuming you do) get it serviced by a dealer than can't even get a car from one place to another on time?

If you have the VIN number on your order then they will have the car reserved for you if it's not in their own network then they will be waiting for delivery from Ford who have 1000's of new cars to deal with. If the car is the spec you want I would want some re-assurance that it's in the UK and assigned to your order then wait it out.

Thanks guys for all your helpful... (and other less so!) comments! :)

Basically we signed the order form on 24th March, were given the VIN immediately, and were told that the car was already in the U.K.

As has already been mentioned, I think it is mainly a logistics problem, although why so late in the month, I don't know, and it would appear to be down to Ford themselves, rather than our dealer, who has other customers in a similar position. He could however (I feel) have kept us better informed as to the reason for the delay.

In any case I don't think it would be that easy to find another local dealer who just happens to have an unsold red four door Ford Fiesta Zetec turbo sitting on his forecourt!

It doesn't help that car has already been registered either, and I that have received the V5C document.

As she still have her 'old' car anyway, it is not really a major problem... just a rather annoying one, and I am sure that our dealer will find a way to maintain good customer relations, as this will be the third new car I have bought from them in two years!

I know it's not particularly helpful but it's not an unusual occurence to wait a long time even from knowing the vin etc to get the vehicle. Though Ford are normally much, much better than VW/Audi at this.

If you've still got the px vehicle then no harm done i guess, are you sure the finance company has already released funds to the dealer? This normally doesn't happen until a day or so before pick up in my experience (so you shouldn't end up with concurrent agreements)
