Looking for a sub £500 road bike, first road bike for a female friend of mine.

Not going to be going huge distances or breaking any land speed records

What can you guys recommend please ?

If you are near a Decathalon store the their Triban 500SE is well worth a look, awesome starter bike which gets some great write ups and only £330.

Only 10 speed 105 so only an utter peasant would ride it.

Meanwhile, back in the real world, that is a hell of a deal.

There's been quite a few bikes with 105 around £600 lately. It being for a woman does have an impact though, and i would strongly suggest you get her to try something out before making a final decision. For some women a normal road bike will be better, for others a womens specific road bike will be better. It's incredibly personal.
