I think some people in this thread worry too much about everthing and anything :p

Just ride!

I'm probably guilty of this :o, to be honest it's just how I am with most 'new' things - lots of research online, ask questions, worry/stress, invest time/money, stress again about doing *thing* right, actually do *thing*, realised I overthought and overworried the whole *thing*. Onto next.:p

The people that just go out and do it in whatever and let their performance do the talking are the ones I reckon are 'doing it right'. But that's not to say the 'all the gear no idea' crew are inherently wrong.
It's just that being a weight weenie and wearing pro kit while having to get off and push sets you up for having the michael taken out of you. Wearing pro kit and putting on a good show doesn't.

Agree totally, but I'd also expect the good rider to probably be a member of and wearing club/shop kit rather than your generic pro-club kit? Maybe that's just me - I find good kit overly expensive! Any discounts riders can get from clubs/shops (for better kit) has to help?! Maybe that's also me... When I look at a pair of £140 bib shorts I consider that I can only wear them once between washes, so I'd save them for bigger/club rides. I wouldn't want to be seen in them 'all the time' so I'd probably want a minimum of 2 different style/brand/colour pairs. It gets expensive quickly! Don't know about you guys but I'd rather save the £300-400 to go towards Next bike/mortgage/changing car/moving house/next PC/graphics card than a pair of shorts which (1) will need replacing in a year or two and (2) get ruined if I come off the bike.

it's one particular dude that seems to have taken particular offense. Perhaps he just has it in for me. Perhaps jealous that despite having a backpack and trainers, I'm still faster :P

I'm glad the majority seem to agree with me. So I'll ignore them in future, and just wear what I feel like. It's quite satisfying overtaking people with a backpack full :)

You're probably right, the guy can't beat you 'on the bike' so has to '1 up' you off it! Either that or he's one of these people who just worries too much about image, rather than the riding!

Scout out one of their rides and overtake/drop the lot of them some random morning wearing your backpack/trainers ;)

Someone on another forum was pondering moving from Shimano to SRAM to save 200g on the groupset weight.

Seriously, just take a dump before you go out for your ride.

*cough*
Tart ;)

Weight is 8.7kg, with another 100g to be lost once I get my new bling pedals.
He knows I'm only playing, I hope ;)

Weather here has been fantastic today. I've promised the mrs a night 'in with her' (rather than on my PC or out riding) but I'm trying to figure out a way to go out for half an hour lol (drove to work today and feeling guilty for 'missing' the sun! Rule #7) ;)

Merlin now do their own range of clothing, pricing and range looks similar to take on DHB/Wiggle.

I reckon I've seen more cyclists out on the commute home today than I've seen in total since the beginning of the year!

I hope he's a racer, if not then it's just stupid :/ Upgrade parts if it's going to make a financial difference and just enjoy it..

Fair weather commuters get right on my ****, and I feel much better for saying it.

:D

Seem to be a lot more about, I keep thinking this haha.

So my new wheels arrived today, some Mavic Open Pros on Tiagra hubs from rose. They feel incredibly light for being 36 spoke, and the price. One thing i was wondering though, they don't come with the rubber protectors that go over the axle nuts, is it worth transferring some from another set or are they effectively useless?

Didn't see a single cyclist on either of my commutes :/ Although got loads more punishment passes, I wondered if that's because more bikes about, so drivers were getting fed up. No excuse either way.

Did a bit of cyclocross tonight. I'm lucky, I have a small, ever shrinking forest practically on my back garden. Enjoyed the ride, although lost my grip and fell over in front my some dog walkers :D Wasn't going particularly quick, but must have caught my knee. Btw, no rucksack for this ride, but I did wear my trainers :P

:D:D Dump, trim the finger and toe nails and have a shave. Slightly cheaper!

Also I hope you guys down south are having nice weather because I have just been out for 35 miles and have come home soaked right to the skin. Absolutely horrific weather :(

Beautiful this evening thanks :D

Well I managed out with the training bunch. Bit of a wet miserable night but it was good fun.

The bunch pedals easy up after one of the steeper climbs as there is a short cut and it comes back together before going for it. My boss went across to catch two or three guys forther up, I hesitated being relatively new but thought **** it and went across myself, we then wheeled about as four until my boss took a short cut. I was then stuck with two really experienced guys pushing hard until steven lawley caught us and then the bunch a minute or so later.

I then thought I'd be king dick and was pushing my 52/12 through a slight twisty descent part but blew up not long after that after being pushed by steven and another good guy. Peeled off at one of the short cuts and met my boss + one other on the way in and just rode home steady.

Felt good to get out as I was sooooo apprehensive about going out and getting pumped but I'm happy how I got on.

I got out and did 30 miles with Damien this evening. First time I've ever been able to outpace him! I'm sure he won't let it happen again ;)

What do people think to the Ribble Gran Fondo?

I sometimes wish I'd got that, such a beautiful bike!
