I'll probably be voting Conservative come the election (my first time voting in a general election, I'm 21) as from reading about online it seems that they are the party whom care the most about funding to Science than the others; I couldn't even find a mention of what Labour's Science R&D funding figures would be in their manifesto.

Of course, Green did say they would increase Science spending to 1% of GDP (up from the current 0.65%) however I don't quite know where they would get the money to do this from - despite it being a good thing.

It really concerns me that virtually no time has been spent discussing Science and Technology, with regards to the election, by politicians and those working in media alike. Funding for Science is an absolutely critical thing in this country and if any of the future governments aren't careful then we will slowly start losing some of our excellent and world leading research statuses in research institutes and universities across the country. To put it into perspective, Britain currently only spends 0.65% of GDP on funding for Science which is lower than the 0.8% average across G8 countries and far lower than the likes of China and South Korea with 2.5% and 5% respectively.

I wish more time would be spent talking about Science and just how critically important it is to Britain.

most of it is funded privately though.

A significant amount still comes from the government and the government has a lot of influence on the Scientific research industry in the UK (for example, encouraging high skill researchers from abroad to take up positions at UK universities) so it is still a big issue I'd say.

Did Captain Planet just become RoboCod? :D

Yeah, he's a lot easier to relate too, having been to Oxford University like all of us... :P

I know plenty of people that have been to Oxford and started out a compressive schools too. Those people 'tend' (from my experience) to be slightly 'different' types of people to those whom are privately educated and sent through Oxford.

I agree the sentiment.

The Greens would increase the S&T R&D through taxation, they aren't ashamed to hide behind such facts. They will also have some cuts in things like defense to more sustainable levels, reduce tax breaks for O&G, and make efficiency improvement in the way e tax the poor just to give them money back.

This is why their manifesto is back to limiting immigrants to 50K, despite Farage being adamant that it is a stupid idea.

You do know that the USA(where you live) also has a immigration limit? So you're calling the yanks stupid as well!

It might well be important to Britain, but they are not going to win an election by talking about it.

Whichever party pledged more support for Science R&D would get my vote at least, and I know lots of other people who feel the same way (obviously biased due to my scientific position I admit). I'm sure there are hundreds of thousands of people across the UK who are interested in this topic and would appreciate parties spending more time discussing it.

Maybe there are but unfortunately not enough to make a difference to state the obvious.

It is unfortunate that so much time has been given to debates and discussions over immigration (where the same arguments are repeated by the same parties with no side really making any progress) rather than other important issues, I find it a shame.

Q&A session with Farage and UKIP. How refreshing to have someone in politics with genuine charisma and passion. That Daily Telegraph reporter made a right idiot of himself :D

Stumbled across another online poll, 52,000 votes, 24% UKIP, lovely jubbly

Unilad - The UK General Election Is Upon Us, Who Are You Voting For?

Edit, link removed, just noticed heated Facebook debate at the bottom of the page with somewhat robust language :D

Ever thought it was intentional?

Everytime i look at these threads i see the same 4 or 5 people in an anti-ukip circlejerk, it's quite funny!

Their manifesto is much better this time around, still by far the party I agree most with and they are certainly getting my vote even though i'm in a safe conservative area!

That was fantastic, it was a BS question and he was quite rightly berated for it, it made me laugh when 7-8 black and asian UKIP members got up and started to wave at him
