So I am due a monitor upgrade from a 32" 1080p (60Hz) LG TV I have been using for a while but having trouble deciding which new screen to go with.

I was originally planning on going 4K when a decent 32" 4K Freesync panel was released (Samsung U32E850R) but now it comes to it I'm not so sure I want my frame rates destroyed quite so much.

I'm gonna be using it for high end gaming (Star Citizen/Witcher 3 etc) so am considering going for the 144Hz 2560x1440 option instead but I don't have any experience with high refresh monitors or 4K screens so advice from people with similar setups would be much appreciated :) Pro's, cons etc.

I am currently running an Asus Maximus Z87 Formula VI, i7 4790k, AX1200i, R9 295X2 with EKWB and custom loop. Considering maybe adding another 290X in trifire if I go with the 4K option.

These are the 2 screens I am looking

I've started threads about this quite a few times and I've come to the conclusion that 1440p 144hz is good for people that like CS:GO and other twitchy games that require fluid movement and UHD/60hz is fine for everyone else that likes demanding games with all the eyecandy. That is what I have come to anyway but I'd buy both if I wasn't such a tight a**e lol.

I am in a very similar situation....

I am 99% sure im going to get the Asus 144hz 1440p IPS panel, even tho i do not play FPS games

I mainly play MMOs and RTS games which from my limited knowledge will not see all the benefits of such a panel

However my feelings are that the monitor will last me a long time and in a year or 2 the norm will be 144hz panels no matter what type of game u play and i dont wanna look back after buying a good quality 60hz panel and regratting the decision

I got the XL2730Z and much say I am impressed. Fantastic monitor, spot on resolution - size - distance from my seat.

A 32" monitor need more than 1 metre to stay away from it to see the whole picture.

As for TN or IPS I leave it to each person taste.

Thanks, yeah I'd love to buy both but can't really justify it at the same time lol. Maybe in the future when prices have dropped a bit. I have a feeling prices on 60Hz 4K panels will probably drop first but still very tempted by the Samsung 32".

Deciding between these is probably up to whether you play and prefer fast paced games with m&kb at >60 FPS, or fancy graphics with gamepad and don't mind the occasional drop <60 fps.
