Currently (browser) window shopping for a car with a good sized boot, but is not particularly big in terms of length. I know this is potentially a bit of an oxymoron, but from what I can see the correlation between boot space and overall car footprint isn't as tight as one might expect. Originally I had been looking at estates, but I guess that MPVs or maybe even SUVs may potentially fit the bill. Won't be buying for a few months at least so just trying to draw up the shortlist of things to monitor and get a feel for the market.

Must have:
-Decent sized boot (>600L with seats up), preferably with no awkward lip etc
-Medium in length i.e. <4.7m
-At least 5 seats and 5 doors
-Isofix
-Reasonable spec i.e. BT, Nav, Aircon, DAB, rear parking sensors, isofix
-Reliable (or rather, not something with a bad track record)

Nice to have:
-No fixed budget but to put a number on it lets say around £15-20k
-Not massively slow (0-60 <10s) - something around 140bhp probably fits the bill
-Comfortable ride, not masses of road noise

Not too fussed around fuel type, mileage likely to be around 12-15k/year of mixed type i.e. regular short journeys and regular motorway use so not a great use case for diesel.

What I originally came up with was an Octavia Estate 1.4TSI in Elegance trim but trying to see what other options may be available. Things like the Superb, 5 series etc are probably just that bit too long for what I'm looking for. I know very little about MPVs but wondering if a seven seater with the back seats folded down may be a route worth exploring

Octavia Estate would have been my shout. While you're looking at the Skoda range what about a Yeti, or does that fall short on boot space??

The Yeti has a pretty big boot and you can completely remove the seats individually if you feel the need.

Yeti is pretty much a small van - with the rear seats removed. With the seats in place though the boot isn't very big and being taller than long is even less practical than its volume would suggest.

VW Touran or Sharan. Both are reasonable enough motors, both will have big boots, and both have the added bonus of 7 seats. Sharan is bigger though, as it still has some boot space with 7 seats up.

The missus dad has a Ford Grand S-Max, hes had all sorts in it.
Think its around 140bhp, seems to have plenty toys and it's always been comfortable.

Not entirely sure it it's a lot larger than the others tbh
