Those previous games presumably aren't on the same league as this though?

It's a FPS.

It sounds amazing.

How you mean same league? It was pretty heavily hyped sold around a million in the US at launch (same month as the 360 launched). Had vehicle combat, Jedi vs Sith, Space battles play in either third of first person it was a pretty excellent game in its time. I would think at that time FPS/TPS wasn't a big of thing then as it is now. Plenty of youtube footage going around, hasnt aged that well though mind.

I mean the destructible environments etc and also the graphics.

I'll be honest I've never checked out the previous ones but I know of them, just thought this would be on another level

It was a legitimate battlefield 1942 rival at the time. It was produced in the days of the good old lucas arts star wars games.

So it wasn't a DICE battlefield game, but when you look at what Battlefield 1942 was like at the time, it was easily on par. Battlefield 2 didn't come until a year after the original Star Wars Battlefront release. If you think back, neither battlefield 2 or battlefield 1942 had any destruction. That came with Bad company which was after both of these.

Just trying to be helpful!!
I've been on a nostalgia trip of the old lucasarts games recently so they're fresh in my mind...

Never played the earlier games in the series but quite looking forward to trying this.
I enjoyed BF4 plenty, Hardline was awful but it'll be very interesting to see how this plays out in the Star wars universe.

I like the Star wars films (originals) but not to the level of most people but the new 7th movie has me pretty hyped for the franchise again so this could be a really cool game.

A Battlefield game in the Star Wars universe.....could be the greatest thing ever made.

I have been saying this since Cod4. I want COD4/MW2 does battlefront not Battlefield. COD4 was just a rip off battlefront anyway. The perk system/bonuses was done in that game first.

They could killstreak it easily, calling in reinforcements from the SW universe.

I loved Battlefront 1 and 2 despite all the tech problems on pc and god awful tearing. This and Gears will be the moment I move to next gen, until then there's been nothing to move me from the 360.

A SW skinned early COD would be perfect imo.

Looking forward to this but I'll be on PC, pretty sure I'm done with consoles for the time being.

It'll be interesting to see what they show tonight.

You're no longer whoring? :p

Tbh the amunt of gaming I do these days it would make more sense for me to PC game, I just don't have a clue about PC gfx cards, chat etc. I find it much easier to just hit a power on button :o

I hope this doesn't turn out to be just another BF game in a different skin.

This is exactly what we WANT it to be.

Getting them to create a whole new engine from scratch is going to be pointless. They've spent so much time perfecting the frostbite 3 engine used in BF4 working on the frequency of client / server updates, adding special high frequency update zones in the direction you're looking, stability fixes etc..

It would be madness to throw all that out the window and create a brand new engine from scratch. Its not like they can re-use any of the assets, since all the guns, vehicles and models will have to be bespoke. Hardlines problem was never that it felt like a BF4 mod, it was that it didn't have enough content. Very little of what you actually saw was carried over from BF4. Most of the guns and vehicles in Hardline are specific to hardline.

Ask yourself this, write down a list of what is a direct copy and paste from BF4 to BF:H. A few gun models like the M16 maybe ? Thats about it. The reason it feels like a mod is because its a very similar setting timeline wise (ie modern era shooter), didn't follow the cops and robbers theme through enough and didn't have enouch content. This left it feeling like battlefield 4, despite having very little shared with it.

You may be right. Hardline just feels like a poor BF clone. It's not nearly as good as BF4.
If this game turns out to be at least as much fun as BF4 then I won't mind.
