Anyone else finding the above message much more common these days when waiting on the phone to local services (council tax, hmrc, utilities)

Is it only me who finds this extremely annoying? I'm paying for a service and they don't bother taking the call. They suggest trawling through their websites to find the answer. (of course the answer is never there).

Shockingly lax and rude service.

Yup, I had this last week with a mobile phone shop customer services. Its just rude and to cap it off I have to call a premium number just to hear we can't be assed dealing with my query. Their website was next to useless and the online chat failed to resolve my issue 3 times in a row hence the call.

I remember when this happened to me the first time. Looked at my phone in disbelief and thought "How dare you hang up on me!?!"
:( Annoying

No the worst is I rang United utilities the other day and they had no hold at all music, I tried on my mobile after the 1st choices it just sounded dead so I rang on skype with headset and the same thing, after 7 minutes of complete silence the phone rang and someone answered.

Yeah. Had this when phoning up the tax credits line for a relative. Had to go through about 5 minutes of options before they said phone back later and hung up

Had the same with the muppets at HMRC last week. The stupid computer sat there taking all my details and at the end it tells me to call back later.

I was trying to phone HMRC one day for hours and this kept on happening, once I finally got through to someone I slammed the phone down on them. See how they like it! HA!

I can usually cope with those as I can go find someone else to annoy, it's when departments promise to phone you back then never do that annoy me more, even if it's just for a status update.

I've have this recently with Scottish Power, terrible company. Took them 7 months to recognise me as a customer (new build house). When they finally set me up I moved away immediately. They sent me a final bill ignoring the readings that I gave them an instead used overly inflated estimated readings. Anytime I would contact them I would either be on hold for 1 hour plus or be met by this message, very irritating.

Be sure to always "record" any conversation, as this is something you can use to get what you want and contrary to what people may tell you about it being illegal, it is just fine if you are a private individual (firms must notify you if they intend to record the conversation).

That message does get my goat! Just like the "We're experiencing very high call volumes at the moment....". I swear it's just an excuse to get people to hang up!

I called Southern Water at lunchtime and they told me there were really busy blah blah and that there is a long wait so I put my phone on loudspeaker and started doing other things only for the call to be picked up in around 15 seconds!! :)
