****Official Project CARS thread****

Erm.....uhm.....Digital foundry have a hands on.....it's not pretty reading.

That is not pretty reading. It sounds dreadful, screen tearing is 100% going to really put me off.

Well, that hasn't instilled me with any confidence at all, the PS4 is a mess, but the xbox one is even worse, but I do agree the VVV video shows it to be running quite smoothly.

I'm trying to find out over on WMD forums how old this build was, Eurogamer (and i'll maybe fuffle feathers for saying this) are becoming a very un-realible source for tech articles recently. I'll not go into details, but I'm hearing the build they used for this pre tech analysis is a good few months old, and SMS are not very happy at all with this.

I can't link to the WMD forum, but SMS are furious over this one. Lines like

I've sent emails out including lines like "whoever facilitated this should be fired"

As eurogamer did the DF with a very old and outdated build, and going on how PC performance was back in Feb this year, it was poor, my PC would barely reach 25 fps in some areas, mid March the code was updated and my PC average fps shot up, and now I average much better, and the 25 fps that I could barely reach on the grid has now long since gone.

Weird as the VVV video at the top which shows wet racing around Monza seems silky smooth, albeit it's in-car and I'm not sure exactly how many cars are on track. I don't think it shows the actual start.

I'll reserve judgement as DF framerate figures can sometimes dull anticipation, yet the game itself it still more than playable.

Ageed, but they could quite easily have set the filed numbers low to get the sweet performance for the video.

It's certainly something to be mindful of.

I also agree that DF are losing their reputation, it seems more and more that they try to get this articles out for pre-release code to get discussions going about performance.

Yes you can argue that's a good thing to make people who will buy this game ahead of launch aware of issues with the game but when the are using old code, it all gets a but murky.

Yep, which is why I said...

Would seem to be a massive drop off going from the VVV video performance to a full grid though according to DF.

The other thing to bare I mind is there will be a day one patch for the game. Since the version that is being put on to disk versions of the game isn't final and they are still working on the game now.

I know it is apprently an old build but if they can maintain 30fps+ on PS4 why not lock it to 30fps rather state 60 which is sometimes 60 other times 40 or 30. I would rather have a solid constant 30fps rather than one that is constantly changing.

Either way, I hope with the newer builds they have optimised for console and got a constant 60fps.

I agree with the second part (and I've sent emails out including lines like "whoever facilitated this should be fired" to show that), but honestly not really the first. I'm hardly objective, but the whole tone of the article shows EG's dislike for us imo. The first paragraph alone: "delays upon delays", "still uncertain release date" etc, hardly accurate or indeed relevant to a performance analysis article.

To be up front - even in the latest version, there are occasional framerate drops in worst case scenarios. The vast majority of the time though it's a smooth 60fps. The article neatly ignores that and focuses hard on those worst case scenarios. The recent camera and render bridge changes (which aren't in the EG build of course) make a significant difference to perceived smoothness, as well as improving control/gameplay when FPS does drop.

He said in the forum he was happy to be quoted, which expands on the quote from above.

I think it shows they are honest enough to admit that there are occasional issues with frame rates, but you can get that with any game engine with even the most powerful PCs.

So I tend to think that there won't be any real issues with the game as far as frame rates are concened.

Thanks, I am careful what I post from WMD as sometimes you never know where the info could end up, I can confirm that PC performance has increased and I will admit. Eurogamer are not being very fair to SMS in this one. I think its completely unfair to analysis an unfinished product. I have my suspicions as to why Eurogamer have done this, but it'll only get some forum members backs up.

I honestly still think this will be a good racer. But I will hold judgement on console versions, as I can only report on PC and going on what I've played recently , as fair as PC goes its seeming a good game..

Will be a miracle if they can lock this to a constant 60fps on either console i think they should have stuck with 1080p@ 30fps or at least give the option to run it that way.

With DF Ive stopped giving them clicks, its pointless regards pre-release analysis and it seems common sense if there might be an issue with performance just not to order a game for launch and to wait for the analysis.

I recommend viewing their videos as their prose normally isn't that reflective most of the time.

Eurogamer updated their tech article

UPDATE: It's come to our attention that the build of Project Cars used as the basis for this article was not intended by the developer Slightly Mad Studios for technical analysis. We weren't aware of this, which was the unfortunate result of some miscommunication on our part with the game's publisher. It was an honest mistake and it is not our intention to misrepresent the game, so we've unpublished the videos that form the basis of the article.

We'll be able to bring you a full analysis of a more advanced build of the game in the coming weeks.

We'd like to apologise to our readers and to Slightly Mad Studios for this unintentional misrepresentation.

LOL unpublish the videos but let's keep the article up for clicks.

They knew what they were doing, no way do you see the (shocking) performance and not question if what they are assessing was the correct build or reach out to the devs/pubs before making any findings public.

Its not like they had some external pressure to rush publishing the article...

Whilst there is no doubt some truth in what ps3udo is saying I'm still willing to accept the update apology. Interested to see how things are with the final build.
