Recommend a router: A tiny cottage with thick walls

I'm looking for an ADSL router with a stong signal strength to replace my free BT Home Hub. I have recently moved into an old country cottage with 30cm thick walls, a winding staircase and solid wooden floors. I love it.... my BT Home Hub does not!

Unfortuantly running network cables through the house is not an option and (given the age of the electrics) I want to avoid powerline networking.

Is there a router & network card would you recommend for this kind of problem? Thank you :)

rather than a router, what about an access point upstairs on the opposite side of the house? you can even get powerline access points nowadays speed would depend highly on how good the wiring in the house is

Wi-Fi is a two-way communication method - if the walls are too thick for signals from the router to reliably penetrate then how is your laptop supposed to talk back to the router?

You need multiple access points dotted around the house, connected back to a central location. You've said you don't want to cable it, so you're going to have to try powerline kits.

You have nothing to lose trying powerline

This by a set and try you might be surprised! They work fantastically in my parents house and the wiring must be 40+ years old.

only 30 CM? Drill from inside to outside run cable down wall back inside.... couple of boxes and external grade cable. Make sure you run two cables in piping and you should get away with couple access points. It's what I did.

External trunking down the outside is such a horrible solution I don't think I've ever seen it look good!
