Wanted to get some opinions getting a little bit annoyed with SLI in general and the heat from the cards now I have a dedicated CPU loop is a bit excessive

Performance on the 670's is okay if the game has a decent SLI profile, can't help thinking a single powerful card would be better and I have an opportunity maybe to end up with a Titan which might be easy to find waterblocks for cheap and get it in the loop also power usage would go down that's always a plus I guess

How does a titan perform compared to my twins(both OC'd to 1202/6008) @ 1080p (144hz monitor)
What is OC'ing like on a titan I know they came fairly low clocked

thanks

Keep the SLI config. If 4 GB is all you need for VRAM, I think you should wait for the 980TI to be released and scope that puppy out.

Providing SLI is working there will be practically nothing in it clock for clock.

The Titan will often have higher minimums and obviously does not need SLI to work.

Problem is I'm finding more and more that SLI doesn't work at least not perfectly, after a while a driver or Nvidia inspector tweak comes out that will bump the performance out but I'm getting tired of getting performance not being there from the get go

latest example is GTA 5 , now it's good I have it running on a mix of ultra to high settings with 2x MSAA and it never dips below 60fps but the GPU usage could be so much better I'm only getting between 70-85% gpu usage per card right now so while it's certainly better than 1 card and I'm relatively happy it's still annoying

Look to upgrade to a GTX 980 or wait for the cut down GM200 card to launch.

The 980 is a bit faster than an original Titan.

Sounds to me like its still running great though 60 fps on them settings, i would just hold on unless your looking to go 4k.

You using vsync? maybe if you turn it off it will use the rest of your GPU power. I just checked it in the city and i was getting 45-48% then i disabled my fps limiter and vsync and it went to 97%.

edit: hmm i just saw your using a 144hz monitor so i guess it aint vsync locking it down, maybe its driver issues then. Lets hope they bring out some better drivers for nvidia, they seem to have sorted the ati ones pretty fast.

Having just gone from a 690 to a Titan (original) I can say that absolute (raw average) FPS have dropped a little but the Titan "feels" better in game. 4GB 670's won't have the same VRAM issues I was having though so the better feel may be diminished somewhat.

Unless you are actually having performance issues I wouldn't bother upgrading just now. Wait for the inevitable 390(X) & 980TI before jumping on anything.

Wouldn't you be better with a single 780ti or 970 instead of a original titan? They are similar or better in performance and cost less used.

They will all perform in a similar ballpark. The Titan has the advantage of more VRAM which may or may not provide more longevity.

Agreed on price though, used Titans are still around the £300 mark (I got lucky with mine).

as others point out a 670 is about half the power of a 970/290/780ti/titan

so sli if optimum performance would be about same.

i would wait for next range of cards .

I moved from sli 670's to a 780, max fps were down a bit. But minimums went up a touch. Average fps was pretty similar in what I play. Now on 780 sli which will tide me over until the 980ti comes out.

Turn off OSD's and use your eyes murah, it can save you a fortune.:p

Murah's running 4Gb 670's though.

Yea, but other than the vram, the 670's are at the mercy of SLI drivers.

Some games ran great with SLI (Crysis 3) others which where maxed out on a single card (Arkham Origins) experinced stutter as soon as I added the second card.

So what Im saying is, a 970 which is basically the equivalent of the original Titan in terms of fps, will be an upgrade.

Plus way less, heat, noise and power consumption!

Win some lose some 4Gb 670 SLi@1080p/Titan, but basing it off a Titan swap, (unless it's not costing him anything)I wouldn't, I would only swap for Maxwell as Keplar performance is dropping off in newer titles.

IIRC 670 SLI was very close in performance to a 690 which was 15% or so faster than a stock Titan. I remember doing the sums when the Titan launched as I was running 670 SLI.

Having said that though in this day and age I would take the Titan hands down. There's also the possibility that the 670 4gb has the extra memory tacked on like the 970.

Plus you can SLI Titans also.

they have the full 4GB usable without any slowdowns you just require more than one card to use that vram else it will choke

They are mighty quick in games that have a decent SLI profile, maxing out Crysis 3 with sweetfx averaging 85fps , minimum of 62 and max of 120

but if you get a game with a bit of a dodge profile, unless you can tweak it with inspector it just becomes a pain

a titan after selling my cards would cost me around £100 but if they trade blows in demanding games then maybe I'll wait for the ti

Yeah I would wait for the TI. As I said, your cards should be a good 15% faster, sometimes around 25% faster than the original Titan so I would hold on for now, especially if the full 4gb is full speed.
