Tower Hamlets mayor removed from office

The corruption starts in the mosques and radiates out...

am i right ?

Controversial

you mean like 101 Imans signing a letter telling people it was their religious duty to vote for him

surely that couldn't affect anything, I mean the population of Tower Hamlets doesn't care much what those Iman's think do they?

Why you shocked?
Corruption has been going on for centuries.

I'm shocked because never in my lifetime have I witnessed this scale of electoral fraud in this country. I guess the nearest thing would be the Conservative held council (Wandsworth was it?) who were found guilty of gerrymandering, but this is the sort of electoral fraud you expect in a third world country, not 21st Century Britain.

There are all kinds of corruption in Parliament varying in scale and audacity, this is merely another type that has seen the light of day.

What do you expect when most of the people there are from the third world?

All unaccceptable imo. I'm curious as to why you're seeking to downplay this incident? You state it's "merely" another form of corruption, implying we should just accept it.

Tower Hamlets effectively is a third world country, I'm not surprised the same thing goes on.

Remember years ago it was the liberal argument that multiculturalism doesn't affect anyone, well when they are numerous enough to affect the political system then it does damn well affect everyone.

The same old right wing racists commenting on things they know very little of.

He allegedly committed vote fraud, and I say alleged because its not actually properly proven, the claims were based on some postal votes that supposedly had similar hand writing, it was less than 100 from what I know, and he still won the election by thousands of legitimate votes.

Postal voting fraud has been around long before him in and around the country and in Tower Hamlets it was labour and tories who were heavily involved.

This guy actually has a far better record doing his job then most in London, his popular amongst the deprived communities, not just the minority ones, the ones who dont like him are the privileged and the yuppies who want to see Tower Hamlets gentrified.

He's been found guilty by the Election Court, so there is no 'alleged' about it. There was massive fraud, the diversion of money to a specific ethnic group and bullying of Muslims by the Imams.

The election commissioner upheld a number of the allegations, including:

Voting fraud: ballots were double-cast or cast from false addresses

False statements made against Mr Rahman's rival John Biggs

Bribery: large amounts of money were given to organisations who were "totally ineligible or who failed to meet the threshold for eligibility"

Treating: providing free food and drink to encourage people to vote for Mr Rahman

Spiritual influence: voters were told that it was their duty as Muslims to vote for Mr Rahman

Hopefully criminal charges will follow.

Rahman is doing a terrible job. He's the most fiscally irresponsible mayor in London by some distance. He's running down Tower Hamlet's reserves to the point where the borough will be bankrupt in a few years. The damage he's doing will take a generation to repair.

It's racist to be against electoral fraud now?

No criminal charges have been proven (or even raised yet) but it has been proven in a court of law that he breached election rules, to the extent that he's been ordered to vacate his post and pay £0.25m costs. This is very serious.

Yes it is still alleged, the accusation were bought forward by 4 people with political motives, and it wasn't really proven that Lutfur rahman or his cronies forged votes. This was not a legal court.

Rest of the accusations did not really hold up which the judge said himself.

Of course it was a legal court. It was not a criminal court, but that may well follow.
