As per title, I will soon be having four couples around my place and am looking to buy some good board and party games. While good clean fun is always great (Charades etc), they can of course be adult-oriented as per Cards Against Humanity, but nothing outrageously sexually explicit that could make someone potentially uncomfortable. Links to the board games you recommend are appreciated.

Nothing drink-related please as wine will already be flowing as a sideline. :)

Maybe it is just me being grumpy but I hate organised 'fun'... Typically happens around Christmas time, you go to someone's house to catch up with a group of old friends you've not seen for a while, everyone is having a good time chatting nicely, catching up etcetc... then the host interrupts it all with some gash new game they got for Christmas, there is a bunch of faffing as the rules need explaining a few times to some drink girl who doesn't get it... the game begins and then it seems we're doing it wrong.. lots more faffing... then someone else(inevitably female) wants to play a new game they played once at some other party... though they can't quite remember all the rules.. Can't stand it myself - food, drink and people catching up is enough for me.

TL:DR version: you had a crap game night and all game nights are now crap.

Cranium and Articulate are good, we play them when we have a group of people over sometimes and they keep everyone engaged.

If you have a big enough group then Mafia is also a really good game to play and you don't need to buy anything.

Cool thanks for the suggestions!

It sounds silly, but get a giant jenga set.

We do this every new year and it's always the adults that end up taking the competitiveness to the extreme. I'm still undefeated btw

Another vote for Articulate. Great fun, although annoyingly expensive considering it's just a board and some cards.

I don't really rate cards against humanity. Get's old quickly and only works well if you all have a a similar sense of humor.

Check out the Tabletop Games forum section. I really enjoy Betrayal at House on the Hill but might be a bit rule heav.

Resistance is a nice quick little card based game
