So, assuming I was in a position where the graphics card will be changing inside a month or 2 (might wait to see what 390x is like) so freesync or gsync is a completely viable option what monitor would folks be buying under £400?

Was looking at XB270HU as a possible. Any other suggestions? Would a step up to 4k (e.g the dell @ £500) be worth considering? Actually, I think just talked myself into 4k... monitor suggestions for that?
I love posts that change direction half way through :( :D

If you buy a Gsync monitor then you will want an nvidia card and if you buy a freesync you will want AMD>

So you should perhaps decide what card you want to upgrade from.

Is 4k only for the VERY early adopters at the moment then? I was... pretty early into TFT (the hitachi 17" 4:3 panel that was well loved on here around '99 or '00) then jumped to a dell 2405fpw around release. Just curious if I should continue to be a scene leading trend setter (I jest, I jest!) or be happy with 1440p :D The dell's still going strong but I've been with my currently system since the whole sandybridge SATA ports debacle. It's feeling like Skylake and a move to a 4K/VR headset capable setup might be finally worth upgrading for.

Well, this was it. I'm not one to throw money at a card and I don't have a particular affinity for either amd or nvidia so kinda looking for gsync and freesync suggestions :) Will see which card I go for in a couple of months (so this is the early edge of monitor research too).
