I recently replaced my mobo and it seems to have fixed things. Since replacing the mobo with asrock z77 pro4 my xonar essence stx no longer outputs sound.

I've updated all the system and windows drivers

The sound card sees sound, but regardless of the options I choose I can't hear any sound. I have AKG K702 headphones and they work fine, they were working with this card before

It really frustrating, so any help would be appreciated. Onboard sound is no longer listed since installing xonar software so i've no sound on machine at the moment

Are you listening through the headphones port since that's what you have enabled there? Did you remember to plug in the extra power supply to the sound card? Did you try a different slot in case your motherboard shuffles them depending on your GPUs?

which port have you got what plugged into?

switch headphone to speakers if you're not using the headphone port

Also, if you're running them through the Front Panel (which is kinda a waste anyway) I couldn't get the FP to work for some reason (on a Asus Ranger Mobo).

If you have them plugged into the Headphone slot on the SC then choose the Headphone option (on the Xonar software).

Hi smilertoo

Yeah, I am trying to listen through headphones. There is extra power to the soundcard, without the extra power it does not allow you to install the xonar software

Unfortunately the mobo only has one PCI-E 1 slot so I'm stuck with that one.

Hi Chvz144

They are plugged into the Headphone slot on the SC, choosing the headphone output emits no sound

it doesn't have to go in a PCIe x1 slot, I have mine in the bottom slot of my Gigabyte z87 board which is a full length slot but is wired as a x4 I believe.

Do you have the sound card set to default in Windows sound properties? Also, make sure the analogue output is set to default. It could be that the digital output on the card is set to default. Windows sees them as two separate devices.

I have an ST card installed (PCI) and can still see and use my mobo sound chip just fine so that doesn't sound right to me.

I don't think disabling motherboard audio makes any difference, I've had my STX, external DAC, Graphics card audio and motherboard audio all listed as active at the same time and never had a problem.

Yeah, its the default
The windows realtek mobo sound drivers are not showing up in playback devices since I installed the xonar sc
