body shaming gone too far? (***warning*** Daily Fail Story ***warning***)

I'd ask the same about you... have people been suckered so much into the whole fat acceptance movement that they actually think someone who stays in shape is promoting an unhealthy body image?

That does have to be the single most ridiculous part of the article, that the complaints to the ASA were about it promoting an unhealthy body image....*shakes head*

erm it kind of does...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_image
Body image is a person's feelings of the aesthetics or sexual attractiveness of their own body
And where does that definition say anything about how they actually look? Seriously, think about it.

While some can claim that the fitness poster promotes an unhealthy body image as it may cause anxiety in people who are obese I'd argue there are far greater health concerns surrounding obesity and the idea that everyone is wonderful and should be happy in their body's no matter how morbidly obese they got is a bit silly.

The advert was questioning whether people measured up against a "beach body" of stunning beauty. This is playing on, and emphasising, a person's negative body image. That's what the whole complaint is about.

Personally, superficially I like the advert because I like looking at beautiful women. But I can't defend its message.

I don't accept fat people or black people. But i accept fat black people because 2 negatives make a positive.

That was a joke. But its how i read every single "hate" thread. I dunno why these are allowed while others are frowned upon ?

Cant 'you' just get on with your own life.

Being overweight shouldn't be socially accepted and embraced. The fact of the matter is if you are horrendously overweight then it is bad for you.

Lets promote Type 2 Diabetes, heart complications and respiratory difficulties instead.

ALso, no matter who it is or what they say, no person who is overweight is happy about it.

Its not. Its no where near the norm. It never will be. Thats not the issue is it or have we moved on.

Then surely that makes advertising campaigns like this complete a fallacy and miss leading nonsense?

What, by showing that working hard and eating right (including the addition of other nutrition in the diet) pays off? Ok then... [insert Kermit with tea pic here].

In what way is that advert misleading?

Women do seem to be getting bigger in this country.

It's definitely the Eastern European immigrants around here that are lowering the average size/weight of the female population....another benefit of immigration! ;)

Its her JOB she spends her entire working day/Life to look like that.
Dont you think it might be a LITTLE BIT easier for "her" A professional model, to achieve those results?? Have you even thought this through ?

Lets get another random woman and tell her to work a 40h week and do 40h+ training see how that works out.

yeah maybe 1 in 1000 people can do that.... Good luck to you if it is you.

like most supplements it implies a quick fix to the "problem" of not being a model sportswoman.
its the same as Make up adverts et al. The pursuit of perfection through pills.

My gym is filled with women that look good and very toned, its really not THAT much effort, 80% of it is having a good diet, none of that involves going to the gym. Also the ad doesn't say to look like her, but to look your best.
