How do you get a person who "only eats british food" to try new things?

I pride myself on having at least a little bit of a pallete when it comes to food, but...I moved in with my uncle for health reasons and he won't try anything because he says he only likes british food, and I'm STILL trying to figure out what the hell that even means. Please fellow OCUK foodies - you're my only hope.

Introduce things really slowly I guess and cook the odd thing for yourself that is obviously not British but isn't too exotic (and has some similarities to stuff you know he really likes) and let him try a bit. It's going to be a slow and painful process.

I tend to quickly run out of patience with people that are faddy about food in that way.

My father is very much like the OP's uncle.

When the family comes around for meals occasionally we make what he likes but add various herbs, garlic (big no-no for him!) to the meat as well as paprika on the roast potatoes (another big no-no) and not only is he completely unaware, but he polishes his plate off.

If he likes cottage pie for example then just play about with the flavours in the meat or you could add a herb crust to salmon.

I also just add a bit of stuff to his plate I know he wouldn't normally eat (coleslaw, salad etc) so that it's not a big part of the dish but he may well just eat it.

I would start with continuing with the same food he is eating but adding extra spices and herbs. Once he gets used to that then you start other recipes like more authentic pastas and mild curries and stir fries.

My Mrs. was the same and now she can eat everything I cook like Thai soups, curries, Vietnamese noodles, Japanese dishes, Chinese stir fries, etc.

so does he not eat pizza? rice ? chicken chowmein?!?!?!!? whomever doesn't like chicken chowmein is hot human!e
also tell him potato is an irish food imported from Ireland and not natural to this country (LOL)

The potatoe is t from island but South America, same with tomatoes.

Aslong as he is happy with what he eats what is the problem? I find it quite amusing how wound up some people get because I'm a fussy eater (far from the worst).

my old man is very similar... he pretty much lives of meat, potatoes and veg.

he mixes it up, in terms of how he cooks the potatoes, what meat it is and what veg, but basically its the same dinner, over and over and over and over.

very rarely will he have a chinese (and if he does, again, its the same each time, (special fried rice, portion of chips and prawn crackers) ).

the only other things i can think he eats off the top of my head are sandwhiches (usually what ever meat he cooked the night before inbetween 2 slabs of bread lol)

its old people, leave them to it, they enjoy it so its fine usually... if its causing him health issues like you mention, then obviously you need to sort something out though
