We got a phone call last week from their agent, the HB's were wanting to come in for lunch as they are filming locally, sometihng called 'the pubs that made Britain'. They wanted a private area so they weren't disturbed as they wanted to be in and out in 45 minutes. I wasn't allowed to say anything.
Anyway, htey turned up and i met them in the car park, they introduced themselves to me and went on in. They are still dieting so they chose the superfood salad we have on the lunch menu and really enjoyed it (not that you can do much wrong with a salad lol), and they had a bowl of soup.

After lunch they had half an hour to chat with us, they are a genuinely nice couple of blokes, got a pc with them and had them sign one of my shun knives :p.

So yes, yesterday was fun.

That looks like my sort of pub. Five handpulls, CAMRA pub of the year certificate, good selection of malts and, if the food's good enough for the Hairy Bikers, it'll be good enough for me.

I've done a bit of detective work based on your location and comparing photos and I've concluded that you work in the Strands Inn. I think I might pop over for a visit some time. The menu looks like good, home-cooked style food, own micro brewery and the rooms look decent. Also, Tripadvisor certificate of excellence four years in a row (good reviews too).

I think I'll bookmark that for a visit. What's the place across the road (The Screes Inn) like? Any other pubs within walking distance?

Good detective work, we have 6 beer pulls though with ever changing beers on. However, it's our beer festival on 8th, 9th and 10th May, where we'll have about 30 of our beers on at one time. The beer tent is being made as I type this ;-).

I've been working here for just over a year now and even though I do say so myself, the food is good, hearty and good sized portions, the pie is locally famous, 6 hour stewed. Our trip advisor reviews speak for them selves (we have three trip advisor pages, all excellent).

The screes I avoid, the manager there has alienated the local community, he has no customer service skills, and we have a lot of their customers come to us and say we're much better.

Beer festival you say. Sounds like just my sort of thing. I might have to phone and see if there's a room available.

This does look awesome. Are you guys cyclist-friendly? Also, if a group of us were to cycle over there and book rooms to stay, would there be secure bike storage?

Yes, we can store cycles in the workshop out back, or we have done before, we get a lot of cyclists here, but it's always best to check with Lesley / Mark.

We go to the Wasdale area every year for a holiday. Luckily, this year overlaps with the beer festival, so really happy I saw this post as might have missed it otherwise.
Stayed in the Strands a few years back(during 2012 Euros when Italy beat England), and it was excellent. Food, Beer, Rooms, staff, guests, the lot. Always pop in. Can't wait

Nice 1st post haha. If you're around for the festival, give us a shout, you'll see me in my chef whites on fri / sat, and i'll be drinking beer in the tent on the sunday night ;)

More succinct detective work shows the name of the pub on the certificates on the photo :p
