What temperature is your GTX 960/970/980 hitting on load?

Yours the ACX? My ACX 970 would load about 72c, the infini8 970 about 65c and one other but forgot the name (weedy cooler) used to run in the 80s.

The ACX out of all of those was the best, near silent for the cooler (zero fan @Idle and like 14% speed under load)

It's always a good idea to take the heatsink off and apply your own thermal paste they all put too much paste on.

I just did mine with ic diamond 24 just a small blob in middle has reduced heaven 4 bench tests by -10-15c and gaming load temps by 6-10c depending on the game and gpu usage of course.

SOC 980 here which hits around 35-40 whilst gaming under water. Universal EK block and fan cooling the VRMs

I seem to be hovering at 65 deg and with +130 on core, +300memory with +25mV on a G1 970.
Fan curve combined and that sits on 56-60%
Quite cool :D idle is 28 deg

At 99% constant usage 85-83C on my top 980SC then around about 80C on bottom one , +87mv 1415mhz cores and 3800mhz on memory.

They can run perfectly fine hot. This is in an Antec 900 case mind.
Most games will never hit that sort of usage mind so its generally anywhere from 65C - 75C really. :)

You can not really compare the different cards from the Maxwell family as they all behave differently.

I have GM200 GM204 and GM206 based cards and comparing them to each other gives results that are as varied as comparing them to a 290X.

As a rough guide my

980s get the hottest.

TitanXs are in the middle.

960s hardly get warm at all.

My Strix runs quite toasty when pushed, 75c max overclocked to 1505mhz and with ultra textures in Shadow of Mordor (that's right, this petty 3.5gb vram card can run ultra without stuttering contrary to what many scaremongers have been saying;p). With textures on high it doesn't get that hot but I still can't believe the temps some people are reporting. My idle temps are perfectly normal but once the card reaches 100% power target it's hard to keep it under 67-69c and when pushed to the max it easily exceeds 72.

My SLi Strix 970s will hit around 75c in GTA 5 at 4K res max details (frame rate is in the 30s but meh, we're talking load here, not playability!). Unfortunately there is very little gap between my cards and I've also had to wedge an Asus Sonar in between them, so they don't really get the air they deserve.

The perils of using the Antec 1200 :(
