Post Your Daily Encounter Pics Here

Have some self awareness mate. Actually bothering to take this pic then belittle someone who has the same basic interest as us, but probably has a bit to learn on styling (we've all been there) is poor form in my book.

Touched a nerve?
Confused at the mods though...never understood bonnet bra's or tow straps

I love the shape of the latest Gen SEATS but having that wonderful bonnet bra completely ruins the look of it (plus all the pink stuff that I don't need to say that). That and the boring colour.

Skaif - if you do lots of trackdays a tow strap is a sensible option and some are a right pain to remove once fitted and the bra just stops stone chips. It's really not difficult to understand, unless you feel like it's your personal mission to try and get the guy to remove them just because you don't like them?

90% of people with tow straps on road cars do approximately zero trackdays and stick the strap on because its 'cool'.

That's fine, not having a dig at the guy just expressed my views on the confusion it gives me when people do it. Personally couldn't care less!

I do think that it ruins the look of a car though. Tow strap IMO is a bit pointless on a car like that, unless the owner plans on binning it? It would make sense on a performance track car, like Gibbo's M3, didn't see one on that though?

Also the car bra spoils the front. Usually a decent looking car but with that it looks like it has a rubbish batman mask on. Don't really get it...Kind of like when people have cases on their phones. I would rather have it bare and admire the looks :D

Unfortunately not quite as rare as you think: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/productionfigures.php

Total pickup models made for the split screen: 356751

They're quite common at the classic VW meets, still very cool though :)

Alternatively (as the post hides the windscreen a bit) if it's a bay window single cab then yes, it's rare.

The tall rear light clusters would allude to it being a late gen 2 Type 2 (bay window). Early gen 2 Type 2s carried over the smaller rear lights from the gen 1. So you get some late 60s and early 70 / 71 / 72 registered gen 2 Type 2s that have the bay window, but rear lights from the first gen (which, if you were just identifying them from the back, could throw you off). They also produced them with the front indicators down low on the front of the vehicle. Low lights. Then I think when they got the large rear clusters, the indicator lights at the front were raised. So if you've got a Gen 2 Type 2 bay window, with small rear light clusters and low front indicator lights, it's exceedingly rare as they were in production in that format for not very long (also given how Type 2s like to rot).

Edit:

1971 Low light - front - low indicatorst
1971 Low light - rear - small clusters

1972 - rear - large clusters
