I got another 280x last week for xfire but in my Corsair 550D the heat and noise is just too much.

For gaming at 1440p would I be looking at a 980 for comparable performance?

980 is a sideways move imo. Can you wait until 390x is out to see what that offers. Either that or Titan X.

It might be sideways but it'll a lot cooler and quieter. And since i paid about £300 for my two cards a TitanX is somewhat out of my price range.

get a bigger case perhaps? The 280X xfire is as fast or faster than a 980 but at a much cheaper price. I would personally wait for the 300 series in a few months and then decide. Maybe the 970/980 prices might drop a bit then.

I've been looking at getting a 750D or Enthoo Luxe as well as an AIO cooler for the CPU. Part of the problem is that my motherboard doesn't allow for much space between the two cards.

tbh your performance is same as a 980gtx. so pointless move just yet. wait little longer till summer and newer cards are here.

Have you bought the monitor already? Does it support gsync / freesync?

Yeah i have it already, BenQ GW2765HT so no Gsync or Freesync.

I thought about getting AIO's for the GPU's but its not exactly a cheap solution for cards that are only worth about £100 each 2nd hand.
