My girlfriend is an artist, traditionally pencil art.

Recently i have gotten her interested in Illustrator and Photoshop and now she loves the whole Adobe suite. She's now also been talking about getting a tablet that she could use to draw with.

Her birthday is coming up so i thought i'd investigate if this was a potential present.

Essentially she'd want a good tablet which she would primarily use for drawing but would also act as a e-book reader, web browser etc. (so all dedicated drawing tablets are out).

I know she'd love an iPad, but i'm sure i've read that the different models have different pressure sensor abilities or stylus designs or something, so i dont want to get the wrong one.

So, please spec me a tablet for art drawing (but also web browsing etc)

Many thanks!

Note 10.1 2014, though there'll probably be a new one out this year too.

I've been told it's the only one to get because of wacom tech.

It would be possible to browse and draw at the same time with the split screen ability.

Argos refurb were £259 a couple of days ago when i looked though iirc John lewis have a sale on which might include notes just checked for you yup note 10.1 is in the sale brand new £259 bargain.

Loads of drawing apps on Google Play.

Surface pro 3, it has to be one of the windows tablets with that requirement. Note (and android ios in general) won't offer her any of the drawing packages.

I don't have first hand experience (pun?) but from having read reviews the Surface Pro 3 or Surface 3 seem like your best bet. The stylus is apparently very good and as Glaucus says you can use x86 software.

Since you're also looking for the device to be used as a general tablet the Surface 3 (not pro) might be a better option. It's thinner and fanless although is less powerful as a result.

With the above surface advice in mind the John Lewis sale incorporates windows tabs too though I don't know if the hp or other offerings have surface abilities, the sale is until May 7.

And a nice two year warranty with JL. Which I've used, asked what was wrong and let me go choose another device at same price as they didn't have the same model/package.

The new Surface 3 looks good and would be a better size for e-reading etc.

However you'd probably want the 4GB RAM version to work best with Adobe programs, that plus the pen (comes with the Pro 3) the Pro 3 becomes better value.

I always mention the 2 year warranty re JL and folk always say "samsung et al guve a 2 year warranty" but the difference is JL's attitude to their warranty being very supportive.

Yowsers. nearly £900 for the Surface Pro 3.

I mean... i love her.... i'm just not sure I £900 love her. :D

In fact she'd probably tell me off for spending so much.

So i'd get it in the ear for spending so much, then probably be in trouble again when my birthday comes around in a few months becuase she'll "need" to spend the same.

Don't have ti get the keyboard right away, so i3 is £639, it's same specs as laptops after all, hence the price.

Or there's the surface3 which is the new atom at 419 or 499 +however much the pen is(£44.99). However no idea how the atom will cope with adobe etc. So something you would need to look into.

Anyway all info and prices here

You can get the i3 Surface 3 pro BNIB for less than £500 on eBay I picked one up the other week.

It's not as simple as that, none will be as full packages as software on windows. They simply don't have all the features.

As they say to folk who can't afford stuff, tough.

My gf has an illustration degree, she works for sainsbury's, she hasn't got a surface because she can't afford one, she has a wacom drawing tablet I bought her cheap ages ago but she's tempted by the Note 10.1 just to play with, these are the reasons I'm suggesting the Note which I saw yday while buying my tab pro 8.4 for £149.

But it's not the only option, theres also trnasfirmer books with stylus which are cheaper and older atom tablets.

You just instantly recommended android despite the OP listing software and didn't even say what the issues with it is.

But I instantly supported the surface after you reminded us but the op instantly said whoa way too pricey, imho windows fans need to stop thinking android dis them and just accept that there are valid reasons not many people buy their stuff.

£1300+ for a tab, outside of the elite race of pc gamers most people spend less than £400 on teir desktop or laptop. A digital slate and pc are the best option for the poor person to do digital stylus drawing as my gf does but the Note is a decent fully portable option if you want to sit on the setee and sketch while you watch tv.
