body shaming gone too far? (***warning*** Daily Fail Story ***warning***)

It's at the end of its advertising life anyway. In that time it received 1 complaint before this **** storm. That's probably why they've probably banned it from appearing again, because of this **** storm.

I doubt they will ban adverts like this, just this specific one ;)

that would be ridiculous - I really hope they're just investigating as they're required to by the sheer volume of complains... I don't see how they could actually ban the advert though... lots of butt hurt/offence isn't in itself a valid reason to ban it

it can't go back in its current form due to some weight loss claims or something along those lines - but the poster itself with 'are you beach body ready?' shouldn't be banned

So, and interesting question.... If you imagine that you are this company. You probably have a client base that is 95% male and are about to risk a lump of money on advertising. So, you want to advertise your product in a way that you may draw in women who are exercising (but have maybe not considered supplements before) as well as getting brand awareness among men that may be using other supplements from competitors. So, what advert do you design?

The exact same one and hope for an uproar. Suddenly advert reached millions of users through "bad publicity" at no extra cost.

Marketting person has done their job properly if this was intended.

Its sad that her body is seen as being an unrealistic physique in todays western world :/

whats funny is if the add had been placed with a completely unrealistic/unnatural massive shredded steroid filled guys picture no one would have batted an eyelid.

unlikely even if they claim otherwise now... sure they want the ad to make an impact, be provocative etc... but you can't predict that it would blow up quite like this

pot noodle did adverts that were designed to cause controversy - 'the **** of snacks etc..' - but those were so OTT that they were quite clearly designed to get banned

When I was in the gym last night, I noticed they'd put up their new posters for summer.. Picturing a few fit healthy women in bikinis and the slogan, "Get beach body ready for summer". I wonder if whoever made it has seen all the fuss about the original!

More than crap like this:

I don't like huge women, why, for the sake of political correctness, show some chubby Neanderthals on billboards instead of nice slim fit women ?

That ad is made even more amusing by the sheer amount of (bad) post that will have gone into it. Her torso has been clearly filled and shaded for a start. That's the problem with all these 'love your body' and 'real women curves etc etc' adverts. They may say 'and we didn't retouch them at all!!!!' - Yeah, maybe, depending on what your definition of that word even is - but you still created conditions on set that no normal woman would be seen in - Professional make up artists, flattering lighting, considered styling. The con goes way beyond just what happens in post. But we're getting into a slightly different discussion from the OP there.

Not my words but spot on.

"During an interview on British television this week, Protein World’s head of global marketing, Richard Staveley, revealed that the company had received bomb threats from irate feminists targeting its head office. so the feminist use terrorism, why were these feminists not charged for terrorism. Protein World did however win a huge battle during the course of the controversy, with its profits soaring as a result of all the free publicity generated by feminist-contrived outrage and customers wanting to express their support for the company in the face of intimidation tactics. Protein World’s next step should be to crowdfund a campaign to have the beach body ad appear in more places and publications, a move which would represent a powerful middle finger to authoritarian extremists who continue to use fascist mob tactics and terrorism to bully society into conforming to their terrible lifestyle choices.
Now that it has been established that ads featuring toned models are unacceptable because they may force overweight offendotrons to take a good long look in the mirror, can we expect to see similar commercials which show muscle-bound half naked men in their underwear also banned"?

No, because us men aren't whining little pansies and we know to get that sort of body requires a lot of hard work and dedication but if we want it, it's attainable.

some protestors... yet the chubby one on the left appears to be trying to hide something with those super size bikini bottoms... nah she couldn't be - she's absolutely happy as she is and wouldn't want a slimmer figure

Why not talk about the ironing board one ? Dowie: Doesn't suit your rant?

Maybe half the women that moaned about this where flat chested rakes?

It's because she's pretty smokin'. Well, would be if she put some effort in.

I agree that it is easier to mock the chubs who are raging at the poster as they obviously don't like it being pointed out that they are (certainly from an evolutionary point of view) unattractive and rather than either accept that the majority of people don't find them very attractive and get on with life, or get the message and actually do something about it instead choose to attack any reminder that they've made some bad lifestyle choices in terms of health and being attractive to the opposite sex. This argument can easily be transferred to someone who is underweight, it's just that they're harder to spot and their thinness is due to too much control, not too little, and that amount of self control is probably less disgusting than fog beasts stuffing their faces.

But, regardless of bmi, the poster does not promote negativity. It's simply asking if you've put the effort in to have a nice beach body and offering a solution, albeit a crap one as supplements can't really replace a proper diet. And before anyone asks a 'nice' beach body is a fit and healthy one, because humans are hardwired to find that attractive.
