Moved into the new place *almost* four weeks ago and the new hob is too fierce.

Even on the smallest ring on the lowest flame you can't simmer anything, it burns so quickly.

Does anyone know how to adjust the burners?

Possibly Dave, you might be onto something. :)

It is hollow and if I look down it with a torch I think there's a flat-head screw in there. It's going to require a pretty long and thin screwdriver to get in there though.

I'll have a fiddle and see if I can get at it.

I've got the opposite problem! I wish mine burned hotter on the biggest ring! :p

Thanks for pointing that out Dave, I'll have a look at mine and see if it has one to increase the output :D

I wouldn't adjust that if I were you unless you are gas registered and knew what you were doing! Without a joke you can end up blowing your self up! Adjustments of gas pressure on an appliance need to be done correctly, taking into account the effect of other gas appliances in the property and the gas they use when under maximum load.

if the appliance is over gassed it could be that the regulator on the gas meter is defective and not giving you a regulated pressure of 20mb +/- 1mb. As the gas enters the property there is a regulator which should decrease the pressure to 20 mb and UK appliances are setup to recieve 20 mb. If the regulator is faulty you could have more which would make your hob flame picture incorrect. This can have quite negative effects on the boiler as you would get flame lift off.
This needs to be checked by a gas safe registered technician.

Hope this helps

If you have any suspicions that the above is the case then call transco out, it's their responsibility to make sure all is good at your meter (doesn't matter who you pay your bill to). It's free of charge, even the call is free : 0800111999.

The only thing you need to be aware of, is if it is not a fault at the meter, and the transco chap suspects your appliances aren't operating safely then he will cap your gas supply until you get it fixed by someone qualified.
