Hi 8pack, what do you consider a safe overvoltage?

Hi 8pack, I am writing to ask you about overvolting. What do you think is a safe overvolt to apply to a SandyBridge chip? I am using an i5-2500k currently.

Whats safe on one CPU is not necessarily so on another so its really difficult to answer this one.

On good air I have used 1.45v+ a lot and been fine for many years. But I am not saying you should do this or its safe. I am just saying what I have done!!

Thanks for the reply, legend. Let the gains live on.

"Safe" depends how easily you can afford to replace it - generally aslong as your cooling is upto scratch and you don't go completely nuts its quite hard to kill (2nd gen core onwards) Intel CPUs with high vcore - even at 10% above absolute max the degradation usually takes years to have effect - but if you can't "really" afford to replace then "safe" is anything upto about 5% below absolute max - can't remember if it was ever published for the 2500K but believe last revision was 1.425v, IMC/SA/VTT can be another matter however - seen that kill CPUs in 24x7 heavy load before.
