Folks, I bought my rig about a year ago with this CPU. I never considered overclocking or anything like that as Im quite happy with it.

However I recently noticed via the MSI software that my clock speed fluctuates between 800MHz and 3.7GHz, presumably based on the requirements for the CPU to clock up.

The CPU is cooled by a Corsair H100i.

So I was wondering, am I best off keeping it like this, or should I clock it permanently at say 3.5GHz or whatever the stock speed is for this CPU?

Im sure Im asking an ultra noob question, so please go easy on me :) Cheers folks.

No need to change anything, that's just the Intel power management kicking in. Just how it should work.

Yep, cheers. But for example say I want my PC to always be "snappy and quick", wouldn't it be better to have the PWM disabled and have it clocked at 3.5GHz continuous?

CPU clock reacts faster than you'll even notice. Even a CPU benchmark would struggle to find any difference.

Leave it so CPU adjusts speed to save electric, keep the PWM enabled to extend life of CPU fan.

Ok cheers folks. Thanks for your advice.

Just one more question if I may. If I want to push the clock higher (so that when the cup is demanded of, it will run at a higher clock speed) would it just be a case of changing multiplier/frequency in the bios or msi software? How far can I expect to clock this thing roughly on air and required vcore etc?

It depends on how good your chip is really, you should be able to get at least 4/4.2ghz id imagine without too much hassle.

Increase your multi up to 42x or more and see what happens.
