Stupid question - HDMI out of motherboard or GPU?

I have just built my first PC, and all has gone well until it comes to turning it on!

I pressed the start button and everything comes to life, but no BIOS beeps and no output to my screen via HDMI.

I have swapped HDMI cables and tired the outputs from the motherboard and GPU. Which should I be using?

Any other reasons that I have missed why I am getting no output at all even though the components all seem fine?

Its worked for me before drivers are installed.

Have you got all the power cables connected? usually a board has a 24pin and a 8pin connector, and gfx cards are usually two or one PCI-E connector.

Yes, checked that thanks. I just wanted to check that there wasn't an HDMI problem before taking it all apart!

There are no BIOS beeps which the motherboard manual said there should be, so I guess something must not be seated properly.

I have had to go out, so posting on my phone! Here are the parts I ordered. Storage is a Samsung Evo 850 SSD which I already had.

Take the GFX card out and connect to the board.

Use a single RAM stick at a time.

Clear the CMOS.

Hmm, annoying.

I have taken it all apart to check, reset the CMOS, tried all configurations of RAM, but I am still not getting anything.

Could anyone let me know what I am supposed to be seeing. I have got a small red start button alight on the motherboard, and the green arrow on the back panel. No action from the fans on the PSU or the CPU, nothing at all on the GPU.

Does the manual say there should be a beep only with a speaker attached (motherboard speaker) or a beep always?

Theres a big red start button on the board, you tried that?

It should power on, the BIOS code LED will show a bunch of numbers, then the keyboard+mouse come alive, then the monitor should show a POST screen.

It should just work with a PSU/board/CPU+RAM.

take the CPU out and check for bent pins.

Build it outside the case on some cardboard.

Seems to be. I have had that apart and put it back together and the 4 pin connector is definitely connected.

By 4 pinconnector i take it you mean 8 pin?

Try reseating the gpu again and re connecting power to gpu or try using molex cables in the gpu just to see if it will boot

No, definitely 4 pin connector from the CPU fan to the motherboard. Is that not right?

I have removed everything now and am just trying to get it started with the motherboard, CPU, PSU and 1 DIMM of RAM, leaving the GPU out of the equation or now.

Still doesn't work...
