Hi Folks,

Looking to put together a tower + monitor for all gaming needs including recording and twitching. Budget of £1200, fairly straight forward but I can't fathom how much to spend on a monitor without taking money from the tower components. Currently have a crappy 22" monitor so it really is due an upgrade.

Additional variables.

- Overclocking. not interested, stability and ease of use is more important.

- Hard Drives. Already have an SSD and SATA drive, but only 3GB/S, is it worth getting a 6GB/S as a main drive?

- OS. Have Windows 7 available, but can get 8.1 for £50 is it worth it?

spec me!

Do you need an OS, keyboard etc?

What SSD is it? if its the HDD that is 3GB/S thats still more bandwidth than a HDD can use.

OS = Do have Windows 7 or can get 8.1 for £50 if it is worth the performance gain?

Got mouse and keyboard.

SSD - Should probably get a fresh one as the old one is a good 3 years old now.

As you have an OS already then use it, besides Microsoft are offering a free upgrade to win10.

Except louder, hotter and hungrier.

To be fair the noise does depend on the variant of card you buy. My Sapphire Tri X is very quiet :D

After seeing problems people have been having on GTA V with the 970's VRAM issues I'd be reluctant to recommend one right now

NVidia shadowplay is great for recording however, normally I would say 290X too but Shadowplay is still supposed to be superior to GameDVR
