I can't quite work out why anybody would hate them, other than reasons of jealousy of course.

I just love how they ignore credible facts and call them spongers, the land they have is in fact inherited. Should we ban multi billionaires from handing down there wealth.
End of the day they bring in a lot of tourism and heighten Britain on the world stage, how many countries are now talking about Britain because of the birth? You can't turn down the fact that this publicity aides the British massively

I read somewhere that George created over 100 million in business when he was born.
I couldn't get enough mugs & keyrings.

At least by not releasing the name uk business gets a head start. It'll take a while to ship containers of tat from China with the right name on.

The Royal Family costs taxpayers £40m per year to maintain.

Revenue from Royal Lands is £200m per year, which is surrendered to the UK. Not including tourism.

How do they sponge?

You are joking right? That £40Million is the Queens Benefit 'Pocket Money' from the Govt. They cost far more to 'Maintain'. £40 Million to cover the Royals Security Cost for a year? Think about that one for a minute or two...

They have no claim to the Profit Revenue from the Crown Estates, do some simple research, it was given up, the Crown Estate profits belong to the UK as a Country.

You cannot quantify Royal Tourism, visitors will visit Palaces and Castles if there were Royals around or not.

And finally you or I cannot say whether the Royals cost more or less than they 'bring in' because we don't know the Security Costs, how much they really cost the Country, it is a closely guarded Secret. I'm sure if they were 'Value for Money' those figures would be Public Domain so we could all see it....

How do they sponge?

Because they fool gullible people like you in to thinking they are value for money when our taxes are effectively funding their lavish and privileged lifestyles.

My " Ginger " comment was purely in the hope that that Hewitt chap has not been sniffing around and they they don't end up with a female version of Harry :)

It is a shame that people would actively hate a couple irrespective of their social standing. Sad world we live in :(

And this is coming from a die-hard republican/anti royal!

I wish them all the best :)

Indeed, and my bald comment was just a modification of your comment, I think we both got it, even if others didn't.
The girl child obviously has hair, as seen in her photo, but more amusing to think she will take after her father.

Are you telling us you didn't know the royal family have been giving money from the Crown Estate for years?
I think it's around £150 mil a year.

"The Crown Estate as a whole dates back from the time of the Norman Conquest. In 1760, George III reached an agreement with the Government over the Estate. The Crown Lands would be managed on behalf of the Government and the surplus revenue would go to the Treasury. In return, the King would receive a fixed annual payment, which today we call the Civil List."

The royal family give more then they take.

Interesting article in one of the recent 'Private Eye' magazines about how the Royals use the usual tax havens to avoid paying tax. They are no better than other rich individuals when it comes to paying tax.

It's pleasing to know that you think a bloke the same age as me stands a chance with Kate Middleton.

A lot of women like older men. But seriously, Kate Middleton is way out of your league. Katie Hopkins, now you have a shout. :p

It's amazing how one little baby can cause so much butthurt hehe. Anyway, our monarchy is staying, get used to it. :)

As would your taxes fund a president or a dictator if any of them ran the UK.

I wonder if some people think a switch from a constitutional monarchy to a republic would be cheap or free.

Indeed,

I think the newer generation (IE Wills, Harry, Kate) are behind closed doors probably much more like your modern day humans anyway. I think they try and be as close to normality as possible.
