***Official GTAV PC Thread*** [Important warning updated in the OP]

There been a update or something? haven't kept up to date with GTA lately so not sure if steam updated it, performance seems a lot better that's why i ask getting between 70-90ps now where as before after a update it dropped my fps down to mid 50s and mid 60s at the most

The grass roots mission with franklin, requires you to steal a truck for barry (done that part) and to tow a car. I went to the scrapyard in the green circle but there is no car to pickup? I forgot what I need to do, it's been a while.

Wow I've played around 5 hours today in one sitting. time certainly flies.

I have found it most enjoyable driving and moving on foot with mouse/keyboard but flying is better with the wireless pad due to the use of trigger and shoulder buttons for roll/pitch/yaw.

The visuals just are unbelievable considering everything going on in the game world.

I only had one D3D CTD, first one to date, reloaded the game and it has been fine since. Weird.

Intended to wait until I'd upgraded the graphics card before purchasing this game but after watching some crazy Youtube videos I couldn't resist :)

Just downloading now from Steam, it'll be interesting to see how far I need to lower the settings to get a decent frame rate on 1920x1280 with my current system.

I got it running near perfect with GTX 480 at 1680X1050 mind you. Most on very high except textures and that dam grass  , but with 1.5gb vid memory its to be expected.

780ti arriving next week so should be a good improvement.

It is a fickle game sometimes it works for hours like a charm other times it just locks my PC up.

I will give R* there due they have catered for as many PC owners as possible. ;)

GTA4 was a fickle game for me, the steam copy would crash after 5 minutes (this was with a q6600 and a 4850). Bought a retail copy on disc and it ran perfectly!

I'm not very good at trouble shooting so hope it runs well..

Just completed the final (3rd) triathlon...my goodness, what were Rockstar thinking when they thought holding forward and sprint for 30 minutes was in any way fun or enjoyable!?

Completely ridiculous!

I know what you mean. Have played 40 hours, only 27% into the SP. Too easy to get distracted in the game! The graphics are mezmerising. Online has me hooked, mainly the heists. I can see me getting a lot more time out of this game. The latest patch has fixed all of the crashes that I was having too which is great.

Yup, the graphics etc. are amazing, I love the graffiti and sun sets etc.

Just finished the SP main story, and I'm now regretting now investing in stocks throughout this! Ah well, will replay the sp at some point :)

Worth noting that reflection quality and soft shadows can have a big impact on actual smoothness of the game, even if the fps is 50+.

I found dropping reflections quality from Ultra to very High improved butter smoothness as did dropping Shadow quality from nVidia PCSS to "Soft". Shadow resolution is still highest of course.

I have reflection MSAA set at 2x. My screenshots of these settings at work can see seen in the high res screenshot thread.

I actually have not played the game for the last 2 patch periods, only today have I had times to sit down and spend several hours. I had the 353MB update of course but that finished quite quickly. hell I'm probably going to fire it back up again after house of cards :D

It's funny how people are super quick to join the heist finale, but when it comes to the setup they arent fussed. Will be interesting to see what this game is like when the population reduces (if it does much).

Online is not for me. Chaos. Idiots killing me even tho we are on the same team.

I gave up. Restarted the SP, but even that I dont have any enthusiasm for.

I might be all played out, I think. :o
