Security guard injured in Texas Muhammed cartoon conference

They knew exactly what reaction they were likely to get. The event was designed to provoke.

Doesn't make it right, but this is one of those situations where common sense should really have prevailed.

If we'd put a thread up yesterday saying 'A draw the prophet Muhammad contest is being held in Texas. What do you think will happen?', I'm willing to bet a number of people would have called this result (or worse). It's a fairly obvious outcome.

So what you're saying is people should give up their rights and liberties because of some pathetic religious nuts?

You're right though, the outcome is obvious.

You literally can't say anything against Islam without some moronic muslim having a cry and getting violent. they're like toddlers throwing a tantrum because they can't get their own way. If nobody else got hurt it would be hilarious.

The Police shot them, not 'everyone'. The gun owners in the US mostly use them to shoot themselves or their friends/relatives.

The same police force that people like Piers Morgan would emasculate and turn into the British police?

Not at all. What I'm saying is the whole situation was unnecessary. Having the right to free speech isn't an excuse for throwing common sense out of the window.
There are a lot of situations in life where exercising our right to free speech isn't sensible and is likely to get us hurt. Most people have the sense to choose not to exercise that right at that time. These people, not so much.

I'm not saying it's all their fault either. Wanting to shoot people because they're drawing a picture is more than a bit unhinged. The gunmen should have had the sense to rise above the situation - surely if their God is the one true God then such blasphemy would be punished in the afterlife anyway?

The attitude of the media is preventing and creating a bubble around criticising religion.

We HAVE to have the right to criticise religion, Islam has lots of issues to criticise.

Just wait people, different cultures are only tolerant when they are a minority. When there are equal numbers there will be big problems and conflicts ahead. Our only hope is to educate people.

That is true and, for that, I am very glad. But as with everything in life, not being as bad as the other guy doesn't stop you from being a ****head on your own merits.

It is a very American concept, stir them up, to drive them out of the shadows, then shoot them dead. One way of identifying the extremists and eliminating them. Interesting choice of bait.
You'd think the moderate majority are somewhat radicalised by such an event however.

-edit
Somewhat like the 'Burn the effigies of the Pope, the Orange Order have every 11th of July for the past 100 years in Norn Iron.'
Doesn't endear you to the other side, or build any bridges.

Totally agree with the second paragraph. Lol. Always been my take on it.

The first one however, yes the situation was unnecessary but it's still their right to draw, mock and discuss whatever they want And they should be able to do it without provoking any response like that. What it should encourage is further debate!

Hit dog with stick
When dog bites you, shoot it.
Say you had no choice.

Morons on all levels and sides.

Yeah wtf...they were clearly asing for it. That doesn't mean anyone should come and shoot the people at the conference, but surely they expected it?!

Victim blaming at it's finest.

So we should not "offend" muslims? Bow down to terrorism? How cowardice.

Sounds like a great event

Some people pretend that they behave better than other, yet behave just the same as those that end up attacking them. Then moan when they get attacked. :o

One group draws cartoons, the other attempts to murder people, how are these behaving the same?
