Can anyone please recommend me some jrpg like ffvi/vii for either snes, psp, psx, dc etc? I like a challenging expansive game with turb based combat but not like ff tactics which kinda sucked.

I have chrono for my DS and like magic, materia, summons and not a kids game!

if etc? included the PS3 then get Ni No Kuni, amazing game!

Hi i have a ps3 but can't use it at the moment. Might look into abother time.

Secret of Mana? Chrono Trigger? Both amazing in their day.

Just got Secret of Mana on android. Good news is my ps2 pad works via OTG and ps2 to usb adapter! Bad news is it feels hack and slash...

FFVI on android doesn't work properly with game pads grr rgrrr..

Give Secret of Mana a shot. It's my fave jrpg, with FFVI and Chrono Trigger close behind. FFIV & V are decent too. Otherwise, have you tried the Dragon Quest games?

Yeah I've just done 20 mins of Mana it's okay. I think i just prefer the turn based battle of ff games more but I'll give a little more time first.

Updated graphics on android are useful.

I'd like to recommend Grandia for the PSX.
If you really like turn based then for the SNES try Breath of Fire (I and II) III is on PSX and is one of my all time favourites.
I like to think I've played most JRPGS on those systems but reeling off a massive list won't really help.

Thanks for the suggestions guys i tbibk6 i was spoiled amd came late to the party eith ffvii/viii and ix being my first real rpg games and im kinda stuck in that mentality if it makes sense?

Legend of Dragoon!

Trust me! Very Final Fantasy 7 in style, It has an awesome "Limit break" Where you transform from a normal fighter to a Dragoon. One of my favourite JRPGs of the PSX generation :)

Star Ocean 1 / 2

Star Ocean 2: Second Story in particular is an amazing game and one of my absolute favourites.

I'd also thoroughly recommend Xenogears.
This is most certainly not your typical cheesy JRPG - it's a much more adult orientated story and narrative IMO. Not only that, but it's also extremely good

Suikoden 2
one of the best games of all time

Breath of Fire 3
Tails off towards the end for me but still a brilliant game overall.
4 is also supposed to be really good but never played it unfortunately.

If you can play PS2 games, I'd recommend any of Shin Megami Tensei games (digital devil saga, nocturne etc) or Shadow Hearts 1 and 2 - especially 2

You might notice that a common theme for my favourite JRPGs are that they are a bit darker in tone and story than some traditional ones. I'm not a fan of a lot of what comes with Japanese games but when they don't do so much of the crap they can produce some masterpieces

Yes the PSP versions (First departure, and Second Evolution) are the enhanced versions.

Xenogears, Suikoden 2 and Breath of Fire 3 are all available on the store and can be played on the PSP, Breath of Fire 3 actually had an official PSP release while the former are simple PS1 classic downloads.

Suikoden 1 is also available on the store. The 2nd is much longer and IMO the better game in most aspects but the 1st is still great and worth playing. I think it's only about $4 which is a bargain.

Suikoden and BoF3 are more traditional fantasy while Xenogears and Star Ocean are more sci-fi based.

A quick youtube vid of any of them shoul give an indication of what you might think. I personally played FFVi and FFVII as my first ever JRPGs back in 1997 and then found all of the games above and loved them all

Im about 8-9 hours into DS chrono trigger caught up with it last night.

But shall i tell you what annoys me?

The Android IOS re releases of FFV/VI etc have vastly improved graphics than any of the ports and have better interface - except that ffvi doesn't seem to provide full control pad usage and is a little crippled by a requirement for touch screen stopping me from setting up up via hdmi to tv which is really annoying.
