I was pondering going out this evening before heading to the cinema but it's just too damn windy and I can't be bothered! I think I'll head out tomorrow night, a couple of times over the weekend. The wind is set to back off tomorrow.

Just picked a load of stuff up from Aldi, thanks for the heads up! Plus the upside of being on the borderline of Medium and Large meant I could pick from the meagre remainders in the two stores near me!

Hahahaha brilliant! Although you still got a 2nd fastest on a segment! Madness! :D

Athlete ;) what's amusing is I've done that so many times on my roadbike and today I do a second fastest on my mtb haha.

Has anyone found any decent deals on Conti GP4 2's (25's) around?

Cheapest i can find is from bike discount.de @ £58 delivered - Can anyone beat that :)

Ta

Rosebikes, £48.10 delivered with £10 off voucher given when you sign up, about 2-4 week lead time on delivery, waiting on my order to be processed as we speak.

Shimano, not really at all. I don't think they even sell spare parts.

Just posting this in case it is of use to anyone really but these guys are worth a try on the off chance if you are after Shimano spares - http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/

Got my damaged shifter window replacement from them. I'd advise identifying the part from the downloadable manuals from the Shimano site before tackling their website though

Well thought the wind would be the most dangerous part of my commute, but no the bloke holding a gate shut saying we're just about to let some cows on the bike path, but If you're quick you'll be fine....

My order with Rosebikes is finally being prepared for shipping!

Ordered on the 29th of April, wonder how long they'll take to get here..

2 x GP4000s ii £48.10 delivered, bargainnnn!!

I rode the 4 miles down the cinema to meet the Mrs who'd driven down separately. 4 miles was quite enough - the wind is outrageous. Roll on tomorrow.

Quite weird riding on flats in normal clothes without the garmin chivvying me along.

Have been looking into wheelsets for my N2A, low number fulcrum, c24 DA, Ksyrium, souls, flo etc and have been looking into custom builds when I stumbled upon these DA 9000 hubbed open pro's, at £370 they seemed decent value and should hold up well with 32 spoke count, am I missing something? I'm no hardcore weight weenie but I like my ride light but strong am i missing something? Will be on schwable durano rubber 23/25mm for the london roads.

Past few days gusts have been nasty between Londons tall buildings, hunkering down as I approach open areas waiting for the crosswind to hit. These 30mm sections have to go. I have been steadily getting quicker (curse you strava!) Had some nice sections on my commute even with the gusts.

Happy with over 15mph, this is only week 4 after all

Oh I'm about 77kg and bikes mainly used for commute and some training/experimenting when I get the time, trying to steadily improve on simple 5/10 mile sprints in the park.

I got blown over last night, fortunately just waiting at a junction. Even more fortunately, nobody to my knowledge witnessed the event. :D

Taking a bit of a breather from the bike at the moment, except for commuting. Work has picked up quite dramatically over the past few weeks, and I'm heading a new project starting in 2 weeks time. I've got a feeling I've been over training this year, as no matter how much sleep I get, I always seem to be tired. Hoping if I take a short break now, I'll bounce back when the weather get's a bit nice, and work isn't so busy.

No worries and glad you got some stuff! My experience with Aldi stuff has been good, quality is superb (it is Craft after all) but the sizing can be difficult. The hardest thing is getting the right colour/size as it sells out quickly! Aldi have a fantastic returns service so I have been known to buy my multiple garments in multiple sizes and return the ones I don't want a couple of days later.

I picked up some long sleeve tops last autumn and my winter gloves are some Aldi ones from 2 years ago I'm only recently looking to replace. The hardest thing is getting the fit right, like you I'm between M/L sizes. The softshells I got only had the Blue in Large (3 of them, 1 with a duff zip). I did try the red in medium and it fitted (very snug so didn't get!) whereas the larges the arms are a little too long. They're only for commuting so the arms being a bit flappy and the body a bit long I can live with :)

Hope you got your wheel sorted?!

I hope you got a mooove on! ;)

And cows ain't dangerous! (said the ex-farm boy! ;) )

Sounds like a great deal, although I don't know much about shimano hubs. They must be good if Dura ace. If I was spending that on custom built I'd probably be looking for DT Swiss hubs.

Excellent hubs (not the best ever despite their blurb as I'd have Chris King, Royce and Campag over DA) but the rims are a bit old school. Nothing wrong with them per se but they are long lasting training and commuter rims rather than 'speed' wheel rim. Also, they don't follow the current trend (which I subscribe to) of being wide.

At 77kg I'd be looking at something from The Cycle Clinic (http://thecycleclinic.co.uk/collections/road-rim-brake-wheelsets) where you could have the excellent Placenti SL23 on Ultegra hubs for a similar price (with better spokes) or H Plus Son Archetypes on various different hubs.

If you are in London then you could get in touch with Paolo Coppi (http://whosatthewheel.com/) who admins on the Bike Radar site as 'Ugo Santamaria'. He's based in Richmond and is a part time wheel builder of the very highest standard; I get him to do all my wheels now.

Looks like I have some people to talk to, thanks for the direction.

Can you spec me some summer/general wheels/set mate, no rush just when you have some time? Price will be the dictating factor for me (as ideally I want to change to a CX bike in future so these wheels would stay on my 'summer' bike). Probably looking at below £400 for a set.

I'm ~80kg and would like them for some commuting, they would need to be fairly solid for that as I'm occasionally also carrying up to a 10kg pack. I'd be running 25mm's, maybe 23mm's but nothing wider (very little clearance on frame).

My bike is a Giant Defy 1 2015, I'm having problems with the Giant P-R2 rear wheel which it came with - some spokes are working themselves loose (happened 3 times in <1000 miles). I'm looking at replacing spokes/nipples (and rebuilding) but really want a second wheel/set I can rely on. I'm thinking rebuild these P-R2's into a winter set (I would also use on the trainer) with the new wheels for everything else. I've thought about getting a second wheelset for a while so this is the prompt/opportunity I need.

Or as i'm budget orientated should I look at off the shelf sets like the Mavic kysrium's (sp?), Fulcrum Racing 5's, Shimano RS21's instead?

Are there particular rims I should look at (32 spoke+) 'bombproof' (as i'm not too worried about weight), then just match with some DT Swiss hubs?

Edit: Shimano 105 11-speed.
