I've just swapped out a HD7950 for a GTX980 and I'm having problems getting 5.1 audio.

The card's connected via HDMI into a Sony STR-DH810 AV receiver which is in turn connected via HDMI into a Samsung PS51D6900 plasma TV.

With the AMD card, I occasionally had to switch off the amp or the TV or the PC to force a 5.1 signal but it always worked in the end, however I can't get more than 2.0 with the Nvidia card whatever I do! :(

In Device Manager, I've got Sony AVAMP under 'Audio inputs and outputs' and 'NVIDIA High Definition Audio' under Sound, video and game controllers, when I click to update the drivers for the Sony AVAMP it says there are no driver files loaded or required...

Any advice please?

What you could do (because I've done it) is use a DVI -> HDMI adaptor and connect it to the amp that way.

I get a lot more audio options available when I do that, inc 24bit/192Khz audio.

I have TitanX's and a Sony STR-1040

Thanks for the advice, I'll hunt out the box for the 7950, pretty sure there was one in there. :)
