hey guys,

looking forward to witcher 3 and like anyone want to play it like it was meant to be played...ie 1080p/60fps

my current spec:

i5 4670k 3.5GHz OC'd to 4.0GHz
MSI GTX 670 twin frozr power edition
corsair 750W PSU
8GB RAM (patriot Viper-black mamba)

what would i need to upgrade? would a simple gtx970 do it?

It's as simple as getting a new GFX card.

GTX970 come with two free games with one of them being Witcher3.

Do you want a suggestion for a GTX970? what case do you have?

Maximum Compatibility VGA card length: 304mm / 11.96 inch

Thats what the specs say (unless you can remove the HDD which it doesn't mention you can do?)

So that rules out the Gigabyte Gaming G1 which is the best as it is 312mm long.

So that leaves,

YOUR BASKET
1 x KFA2 GeForce GTX 970 OC Silent "Infin8 Black Edition" 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card **WorldWide Exclusive** £299.99
1 x MSI GeForce GTX 970 Gaming Edition 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £299.99
1 x EVGA GeForce GTX 970 SSC rev2.00 ACX 2.0 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (04G-P4-3975-KR) £299.99
Total : £899.96 (includes shipping : Ex.VAT).

The MSI runs passive at idle, the EVGA has nice clock speeds, the black edition claims to have coli whine reduction/guarantee etc.

They are all equal price, they all come with two games.

What board do you have as you may have to update the BIOS to see the newer card.

why is the gigabyte G1 the best one? has the most boost clock? whats difference between base and boost clock? why are there 2?

also is the 970 easily clocked to 980 speeds?

The G1 gaming has the best cooler, its all metal, its three strong fans and its damn quiet.

Gigabyte also claim to bin the cores that go into them.

There are two clock speeds as the boost is based of the temperature that the core is under a specific target and this varies even between the same model card.

My GTX980 G1 gaming boosts higher than the rated boost speed always as it runs cool.

u asked earlier about motherboard, its the Gigabyte Z87X-D3H

will all of those cards above run witcher 3 1080p/60fps?
are they easily overclocked?

Well the game isn't out yet so no performance numbers are available.

They are all easy to overclock.

Theres a overclock guide -
- same principle applies to single cards.

Hmmm.

You never know, one of these cards may appear on a weekly offer again.

An important game like this is bound to have performance tests carried out using various card and different settings.

Doubt it.

Wait for the game to come out and see how it plays, or wait for review sites to do their usual CPU+GFX testing and post their results up.

one more problem, Im removing my cpu cooler, because its too big.. cant close the case properly without bending it, currently using the alpenfohn k2 mount doom, dunno why i bought it considering I oc'd cpu to 4.0ghz from 3.4ghz.
any smaller recommended coolers? Im thinking maybe water cooled?
I will also be taking this opportunity to upgrade to an i7, but dont know which one.
many thanks.

Your case says it takes 171mm coolers.

The K2 is 158mm without fans.

Its the middle one that makes it too high,

You could just replace that fan with another smaller one? or push it down to the bottom as far as it goes?
