Please bear with me but before putting the ?'s which I hope owners will answer.... by way of background:-

I have read about and have had my own usb 3 (rear ports for me ) problems with Asus X99 boards. (my board is the S type). My first board was never right and replaced by Asus , my second was stable until I managed to bend a few cpu pins:eek: and the third , recently received (new system , finally, fully operational :)), does appear to be stable.
(for me on all 3 builds stability seems to come by using as few usb 3 ports at the back of the board as possible and preferably using the rear usb 2 ports).

Apparently ,my new system, 'no problem' - all issues dealt with - I thought.

However a post by smsmasters in the past few days asking if I could see in Device Manager a driver for Asmedia USB 3 made me start looking and to realize that no such driver was installed . Strange?
Having looked at the 2 support discs (671.3 & 671.06 )I still own ,I know now why no such driver - and the situation does, to me, seem a little odd.

Again - bear with me.

When installing a new board I will , more or less immediately, after windows is installed , load the support disc and run 'set up' - in this case I consented to Asus set up running (on all 3 occasions).
Go to drivers and subject to just checking that I am not unintentionally installing some .... I will install.
Have checked both discs and neither lists an Asmedia usb 3 driver - so I did not install such ( just to mention I did install the Asmedia Sata 6 driver - which does appear to be functioning normally), BUT given the 8 (S board) usb 3 ports which the manual says are 'ASMedia USB3.00 controllers' the lack of a driver to install does seem 'strange'.

Checked Device Manager and the only USB drivers installed are Intel (the set up disc does list an Intel USB 3 driver- which I did install) or generic (microsoft/intel).

Decided to have a look at what was on the discs I have, but rather than run 'Asus Set Up' went - my computer/ asus disc/ open and found under drivers/usb3 a driver for Asmedia 104x usb3.
Also checked the Asus web site to find an updated driver for Asmedia for USB 3.1 / 3

Basic ?'s for users is 'have you installed the Asmedia USB 3 Driver' and if you did 'has it caused any problems or resolved any of such.'

Am wondering if the usb 3 problems flow from the fact that the Asmedia USB 3 driver is not installed?
and even if this is not the cause will the board function better (or worse) with it?

May be I have the total wrong end of this - my technical knowledge is , to put it mildly, limited . If I have messed up and the actual answer is simply down to my incompetence , my apologies , I am only trying to find out and , possibly, help :)

i have been told by a top end reviewer that ASUS are known to skimp on their USB qaulity.

I have E-WS board. so should be top of stablity on X99 in theory.

so far
- certain USB stop be booting - fixed by bios update
- AI suite coruppted my bios - fixed by returning
- USB not recognized sometimes, this was related to any USB powered hub.

Not sure if i got the driver installed will check

This is how mine looks like:

I couldn't get the ASMedia USB 3.0 Controller Hub driver to install, it just stays as "Generic SuperSpeed Hub". My USB 3.0 devices work fine though even through a powered USB 3.0 hub, so I'm not sure if the driver is needed.

Tried earlier tonight to install the 'new' Asmedia USB3 driver to find that it would not instal - went so far and then I got the message/advice to the effect of 'The Asmedia USB Host controller was not found' - installation would not go further.
Decided to try loading the driver from the disc - success it installed ... BUT it did nothing , nothing changed in device manager , so nothing about asmedia usb 3 nor are any of mu usb entries titled 'Superspeed' - my top 2 (and there only 2!) are simply 'Generic USB hub'
Tried to install the new over the old which had , allegedly, installed - no joy - usual Host Controller not found.
smsmasters - which board are you running? - Do you recolect how you got the superspeed entries?
Have e-mailed Asus but no reply -yet

Asus X99-S same as you. Can you show me your device manager screenshot please.

Windows 8.1 automatically installed the "Generic SuperSpeed USB Hub" drivers...

Cannot get to computer at moment so device manager shot is out.
But I am running windows 7 ult. which may explain why I do not get the superspeed entry (windows 8 only?)

Im using the X99-A, when i installed the ASMedia USB 3.0 driver, it said it went in fine.

My Device Manager looks like this.

On Win7 pro 64bit.

Don't have anything plugged into the USB3.0 ports, only use the top 4 USB2.0s, but pretty sure when ive plugged in external HDDs and what not though, ive plugged them into the USB3.0 ports, and they've worked fine.

I can't get mine to install the ASMedia 3.0 Drivers on my X99-S

My first deluxe had the same issue with the USB, sometimes even dying mid-use on the mouse functions.
Second deluxe working fine though, ASmedia usb installs too.

I hope no one minds if I ask if these USB problems are only found with this board when running Windows, I only ask as I'm hoping to use this MB for my next build but will be running Linux and wondered if this board has USB problems with all OS's.

If you do not require the OC socket on the ASUS x99 motherboards I would always buy a different make/manufacture.

really? any potential usb problems outstanding, i would always consider asus....they have a very good track record.both from personal experience and anecdotal forum comments..

Should I RMA mine? Apart from not being able to install the ASMedia USB 3.0 Hub Driver (the built in Windows SuperSpeed Drivers work fine), I don't really have any hardware issues yet.
