Hi OcUK track-dayers, now I've got a decent motor for it I want to get my first track day booked. Who's good, who's not? Also any recommendations for decent tracks to go to as a relative novice? (I.e, room to go wrong and not hit something!)

Airfield circuits are your best bet - I'd agree with Joe that Bedford is probably the best of the bunch for a novice.

Jump in at something technical, forget these boring flat circuits with loads of run off :p

Oulton Park makes you respect a track day as there's SO much to learn at every corner, none of this boring sweeping bends you can take at 120+ :D

Depends how much you care about your car really, airfield days are very forgiving but tighter tracks can be way more fun but there is a increased chance of binning it.

I've just sold my 2005 Subaru STi and bought a bit of a shed of a 1996 WRX as i'll probably have more fun as i won't care too much if i do end up stuffing it into something :p

Where abouts in the country are you?

As above - can really recommend Blyton if you are further north. Was the first track I did when it first opened and really enjoyed it, plenty of run off although I do agree most corners you can take at silly speeds without having to worry which does remove some of the fun, but also a lot of the risk!

A friend of mine says the Javelin ones tend to be too busy as they shove too many cars on track at once and generally not very well organised.

I've been on a few with MSV and Javelin. Can't fault either of them. Just don't go at the weekend as it will be busier.

I've heard negative stories of Javelin over booking and there being queues all day but I've not experienced this so can't personally comment.

Yeah the Javelin day I did was one of the best. Better than EasyTrack, sorry I mean TT "cough steal all your money and then pretend to go bust cough" Events :p

Bedford is great, but it does mean you get cocky. Its the only track I've spun at and it was because I pushed my luck. Oulton is fantastic but may be a bit scary for a first timer.

Remember a long sleeve top and trousers. Also if your planning on doing a few buy a helmet. Renting one is expensive and some places have very limited supply.

I would highly recommend an airfield day for your first, for first few.

Near to me, Hullavington, Abingdon, Keevil (currently being resurfaced). All very good courses and great to learn your car with big run-offs for if you push your luck
